Well Hello Everyone: It registered -34 below zero on our outside thermometer this a.m. It's a bit crispy outside.

Saturday evening I spent a bit of time on making out a meal menu for the whole month. Then from that menu I made my grocery list. Yesterday after church we drove to Williston ND to do our monthly grocery shopping. Came home with so many items, and within my budgeted amt.

I buy my milk in gallon jugs, freeze them along with several loaves of bread from WalMart so instead of having older bread which I had usually bought from the bread store, have fresh bread to freeze.

Prior to making my meal menu, I looked thru many Country Woman's mag. and Taste of Home mag. Which are loaded with recipes and always easy and cheap to make. So will have a variety of meals which sounded good.

Had used only 2 coupons , but wanted to use more, but had lost my coupon pkg while shopping, so someone else will enjoy my coupons. We don't get coupons with the sunday paper here very often, but when we do, they are mostly medicine type coupons.

Well everyone, keep warm, keep healthly

Joy

Good Morning everyone

Frugal for me yesterday was going to Walmarts and Joann's. Walmart had these really tall cycliner canisters in mint and red vertical stripes.. bought 4 at 50 cents each to hold pasta, beans, cookies, chips, etc.

Joann's had 70% off on their holiday stuff. I found these ceramic Santas with a bouncy thing in them (like those car things?) anyways they were $7.99 marked down to $2.09 I bought 3 also bought a couple of Christmas pins for less than $1.00. Just hope next Christmas I can find them.

Dh made our list so long this year for co workers, 21! I am hoping he can narrow that down some next year. I made small candles and a bath salt in a cute little bag with filler paper for most of them.

Anna

You'd think it was spring around here--rain rain go away...!!! I'd like just a little snow so I can take the kids sledding. Got new sleds 2 yrs ago and haven't broken them in yet.
On the other hand, I'd prefer rain to -34. Czechlady, how is the weather by you in the summer? I'll be visiting Trout Creek in July.

Bringing in my garbage cans (with umbrella) and found a Target gift card in the driveway We live at the bend in our street (L shape) so everything blows our way. Leaves, garbage you name it. Will check with the neighbor to see if they dropped it, but if not $50 is mine to keep Been saving for a down comforter for dd1 who has the coldest room in the house so it will come in handy.

Ohhhh man her ears must've been burning, just got a call. Have to deliver the card back to its owner. Oh well, they are like family so I'd feel guilty keeping it if it belonged to them. They are on a fixed income and we're not-better in the long run.

Frugal is not buying bread machine mixes at Kohl's. I use recipes from hillbillyhousewife.com. Put the dry ingredients in baggies except for the yeast, add yeast and wet stuff when ready to load the machine. I can buy a 20 pound bag of bread flour for the cost of two mixes.

I too have gotten several notices that there are new posts, and when checking no one has recently posted?

LJsmom : I am a transplant from WA , so am not acquainted with Trout Creek, but our weather in July/Aug is warm, misquitos and windy. Not my favorite time of the yr for this area. I am spoiled from living in WA.

preacherswife: What a great idea measuring the ingredients up ahead of time , then putting it in baggies to use when ready to make up bread with the bread machine.

You gals always amaze me with all your neat ideas, but they always say, 2 heads are better than one. !!!

Still cold here....
Joy Having some popcorn and trying not to take a nap.

I made up bread mix in a different way....I measured enough for 10 loaves, mixed it ALL really well and put it in a big container. 2 cups dry mix plus the wet ingredients and yeast gets me my loaf of bread, just the right size. This was for one recipe of bread I use a lot that has about 12 ingredients. I got tired of hauling it all out. Now it's just the mix, water, butter, honey, caramel color and yeast. It did help a lot.
For some other recipes I might just make some bagged mixes and store in the freezer. It would be super-convenient.

Yes, Joy, I can see how WA could spoil you ! It is beautiful here. Not having as much typical rain. It is blue sky, sunny, but chilly here.
The bread mix idea is great. I should make up a big batch of it. I prefer honey in mine instead of sugar.
Frugal, not sure, but just busy trying to clean up the holiday decorations and putting away the new things. Got a grand set of new stainless Cuisinart cookware. I ordered a 17 piece set. Got the cookware, a note included. Said they couldn't get the 17 piece set, so sent a 21 piece set for the same price ! Regular price for the extra pieces would have been $180 !!!
Ordered a bunch of vitamins, most were order 2 bottles and get 3 free for the same price. Some I got were buy one/ get one free.

Back to making my tuna pasta salad.
