Thanks for posting the info. on the swifter jet... I bought one used, it has the liquid but not pad thingy and I keep forgetting to pick one up, so this information will be handy when I start using it.
I had to laugh at your mention of bonus checks... mine has went from a net $500 at Christmas when I first started to $100 last year. No warning that they would be smaller each time so I'm doubltful we'll get anything this year. Very disappointing especially for the folks here who have children and depended on that money to buy Christmas gifts with. Reminds me of National Lampoon where they guy got the Jelly Jar gift of the month instead of his bonus check.

I bought a couple of dozen white washclothes for my swiffers. For the wet swiffer, I cut a moon shape out of one side and hemed it. I do rinse the clothes out before I wash them.... sometimes even hand wash them first if they are really dirty.
Has anyone used the Swiffer Vac? It looks like a good idea but... I wonder if it is worth the money.

on another site someone posted that the swiffer Vac's had been recalled. Something about them overheating while they were charging and some caught fire. I will try and find the post/web site
and post it.

Here is the web site: http://www.homemadesimple.com/swiffe...ac/press.shtml
CINCINNATI, November 26; The Procter & Gamble Company announced a voluntary recall of Sweep+Vac by Swiffer, a new battery-operated upright vacuum cleaner introduced in September 2004. The product is currently sold only in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Consumers should stop using the recalled product immediately.
This recall does not affect any other Swiffer products.
P&G has identified an isolated Sweep+Vac product quality issue. In a few cases, the Sweep+Vac rotor can lock up. If the unit is left in the "ON" position, heat can build up producing smoke, with the potential for fire. P&G has received 14 complaints of Sweep+Vacs overheating, including one report of a small fire with minor property damage. There have been no reports of consumer injury.
The recall involves discontinuation of all retail sales and a product retrieval from consumers. P&G is asking that consumers stop using the Sweep+Vac product immediately. Consumers are instructed to disconnect the Sweep+Vac by removing the top section of the handle. Consumers can do this by pressing the small green button on the handle, about 12 inches below the handle, then pulling the handle straight out. This eliminates any possibility of the unit overheating.
Consumers should then contact 1-800-487-5915 or visit www.swiffersweepandvac.com to receive shipping materials to return the Sweep+Vac unit to Procter & Gamble and receive a refund.

I also had to laugh about the Christmas "bonus". In the past DH's bonus was equivalent to one week of pay. Which are given to the employees at the Christmas dinner, that is usually held on the 23rd. Last year was the first year we didn't depend on the bonus. Luckily, because they didn't get one, and didn't find out they weren't getting one until the 23rd!! Lucky for the ones that hadn't done their shopping, that they also give the paychecks the same day as the party!
My Christmas bonus from my employer has been reduced to a calendar. And I really am not expecting one of those this year!
So, this year if they get a bonus, which they are supposed to, we will use it for paying off credit! I guess that would be considered frugal!
I am hoping to be able to use at least most of our income tax return for a down payment on a house. That is provided that we can either sale this trailer or walk away from it somehow! Which in the long run buying a house on a piece of land will be frugal, as than I won't have to pay the stinking lot rent!
Other than that I have spent yesterday, and this morning at the hosptial with my Dad. He had another breathing episode, rapid heart beat, and low blood pressure. He was on a breathing machine from yesterday afternoon, until this morning.
Oh, yeah, thanks for the info. on refilling the swiffer containers! I was trying to figure out how to refill them.
Karen,
Hope your dad is feeling better soon.
We usually get cash from Parents, grandparents, and one of our aunts. Thats what we consider our bonus. Dh and I put the funds together and buy something for the house, its how we got a few things like the microwave, garbage disposal, dishwasher.....
This year though are going to throw right in the savings account. Although I may get a couple of outfits, all my jeans are getting to big again. Not even a belt is really helping. Hope to go thrifting week between xmas and New Years. I have no kids that week but my own.
Usually my daycare parents give me a tip...Its always nice to feel appreciated.
Frugal today, washing clothes in cold line drying sheets and ds comforter....Finaly finished getting all my baking supplies I spent 30.00 so I was happy with that. (some things I had on hand)
I am hoping Santa brings me a seal a meal, they seem to have gone down in price, and I have found myself having to throw some stuff away because of freezer burn, so thinking even if the bags are a little pricey may be more frugal in the long run. DO any of you own one and if so do you actually use it?
Leighann
I used to own a seal a meal, but I found the price of the bags was a bit pricey, and I was not impressed by the way it worked. Ziplock and glad as well as some generic store brands now carry those little containers that a lid fits tightly on, I found that those are cheaper in the long run than the seal a meal. I gave my unit away this past summer to a friend who came to visit.
My mother, on the other hand loves hers.. I guess its just a matter of opinion and how much you want to spend.
Lee i have one and I love it i also have the attachment where you can seal stuff in jars i love that i put all my baking powder and stuff like that in jars and it last forever
