Thank you all for all the headache info. I've always tried to get motrin into him at the first signs of the headache, but it usually doesn't stay down. I've never thought about filling him up with caffeine--although you're right, it does help migraines. I think the next time he complains of dizziness, I'll start with the motrin and caffeine right then and see if I can "head it off".
I too, get them, but usually don't vomit, and keep down multiple advils, which at least makes it so that I don't writhe in pain, like he does.
I, too, was a migraine person. But mine were as a result of a closed head trauma in an auto accident. I never did take imitrex, even though I had a script for it. I would take aspirin (2), with a hot cup of tea, and then follow it right up with a pepsi. I swear by that. The hot liquid would help the aspirin dissolve, and add a little caffeine. Then you shock your system with that cold pepsi. I did that almost every day for about a year. Then they slowly started to disappear - just as my brain was coming back, a little.
I was so disabled, it was awful. I lost my ability to do past 5th grade math. I still have to use a calculator, but I used to be able to do complicated fractions, and percentages faster than you could punch the problems into the calculator. Not anymore.
And I also had a terrible time with nouns. I could use adjectives and describe anything to you, but I couldn't name it. My sister once told me to figure out what it was I was talking about, and then call her back. And she hung up on me. I was crushed. I am better, but I still slip up sometimes.
I also never had any real sense of direction, after the accident, you better provide me with a map, and then highlight the path. It is a good thing that Atlantic City and where I work is a straight shot, with only 3 turns to get to the parking lot.
I lost a couple of checks (not a lot of money, but money nonetheless).
I locked myself out of the house, out of the car. I had to turn on the tv every morning, just to find out what day of the week it was, and what I had to do that day (go to church, go to work, etc.). I only did one thing that could have turned out badly - I put a pot of water on the stove, and then left with my boyfriend and nephew to go to a restaurant 20 minutes away. When I realized what I had done, I left them to eat, and come all the way home to take care of it. As I got to town, the fire alarm was going off, and I was in a panic until I got home, and there was still plenty of water in there.
Throughout it all, I also had to go to "brain re-training" class for 6 months, I learned to just laugh at myself. That continues til today. When I went to the brain re-trainign lady, I also had this terrible empty feeling, like my personality was just not there.
One funny thing that I did, and I will never know why, was to buy the entire 50 book collection of State Cookbooks from Southern Living's Hall of Fame. I came home one day, and there were boxes and boxes of cookbooks. I refused to send them back and paid for them on a payment plan. That will always remind me of that accident, and how I had to learn to crawl back.
Now they have a drink called Red Bull. You can even get it in the drug stores. It is a very high dose of caffeine. They are not inexpensive, but I do want to try one, one day. Maybe I can convince my manic boss to go get me one on a day when I am really dragging, and he is going, "Well, you still have 20 minutes to get what-ever-it-is out". By 4 p.m. I can hardly think straight anymore in there, let alone at 4:40.
People in bars here and in New York, are crazy for it. They drink shots, beers, etc., and then a couple of those Red Bull things. Makes for more "awake drunks", if you ask me.
Well ladies, have run off at the mouth too much this evening.

Hello
Haven't been on for a bit, things around here have been quite stressful for the past 2 weeks, but now all is calm.
Today am using up left over mashed potatoes and some gravy from last nights supper , then will fry up 2 pork chops to make our dinner today. Had liver and onions last night, can remember when 2 of my kids would say there wasn't enough ketchup in the world to cover up the liver !!! But I love it.
Have a large batch of dough raising , will make some cinn. rolls. Am using Splenda as the sweetner. And will use the Sugar Twin brown sugar for the insides of the cinn. roll, have to go easy on them those as bread seems to crank up my blood sugar easily.
We have had very nice warm weather, 55 above yesterday, WOW..could live with that until spring
Bought a small drop leaf kitchen table this past week at a moving sale, was $10 , will leave the finish as is, shabby chic is what they call that, and will take it to WA when we go out there in July, to sell it at an antique shop.
Have a good weekend everyone..

Last night we just stayed around the house, had leftovers for dinner, and snacked on stuff we had here while we watched tv. DH is finally really starting to get better and his horrible cough is going away. DS/7 and I did a puzzle of the U.S. my mother gave him for Christmas- he loves reading the state and capital names and telling you what sports teams play in those cities! He gets a kick out of Iron Chef on Food Network, so we watched that. It was a Valentine's Day dessert battle, and the secret ingredients were chocolate and bananas. Mmmm.
Today DS/7 has been invited to a birthday party, but I'll take DS/3 also because the birthday boy has a little sister that age who he gets along with. Plus the parents rented a moonwalk for the party, so the mom said the more kids, the merrier! It will give DH some quiet for a little while and the kids will hopefully wear themselves out at the party.
When we're back from the party I'll set the boys to doing something and spot-clean. Dinner will be something here.
Wow Norma...what a journey you have had. You should be very proud of yourself for how far you've come.
That reminds me of what I read on the news yesterday about the gal who had been in a coma for 20 years unable to speak at all or function normally called her parents up and said "Hi Mom". Can you imagine what that parents must have felt...wow...
All this talk about migraines and head trauma...our brains are so amazing...
I will do my best at frugality today. Today is town day with the family for errands and hair cuts and groceries...
I finished cutting up the 12 lb pork loin that I bought the other evening. Cut 2 roasts (cooked one today), 3 packages of chops (2 for us, 1 for when the in-laws are here), 1 pack of scraps for stir fry. The roast are big enough to make 2-3 meals from them.
I baked DS2's birthday cake today for the party tomorrow. I made a red velvet heart shaped cake with vanilla icing. I'm not sure if I will decorate it or not that isn't an area of expertees for me.
DH & I are going out for a late dinner tonight as our Valentine date. May or maynot see a movie we haven't decided yet.
Well ladies it looks like we are turning the page today.

Good job on the pork... that was quite a deal getting all those meals out of it.

So glad to see you back I've missed you. Breads raise my sugar too and I so love breads and pasta.

That's what dh and I did last night, just hung out at home and in fact went to bed early for a change.
I will be filling candle orders tonight and then tommorow night will be renting a movie and taking it easy.
Today I went to about 10 different stores including 2 thrift stores. I found a bookshelf to take to the mall (our shelfs arent' real sturdy and we're afraid someones going to lean too hard and knock over everything). It was only $3.99 it needs painted.
I went to a Cake Craft store and found beautiful candy boxes in a shiny gold foil with a plastic window 89 cents each. I will put 10-12 votives in them and sell as a set.
That is about it. It's been a beautiful day, wish I'd been home earlier to hang clothes outside. It's starting to get dark now.
Have a good evening everyone.

An idea for shelving at the mall,
I have bought sturdy plastic wastebaskets ( all the same color) , tipped them upside down and laid a board across to each wastebasket. This makes a very sturdy shelf and another shelf can be put on top of the first one, doing the same thing. The boards can be painted , and this can be reused many times, such as when you do a flea market or etc. Just an idea.
