Carol, what a fun way to spend the day with your Mom. That is so great that your parents moved closer to you.
Today, I want to be very frugal. I don't know if that will be possible with the oldest dd off from work today. She wants to go to town. I am going to try and stay home because I just don't feel really good. I do need to go in and take a late b-day gift to one of my sil. I bought her a silk blouse, but I ended up wearing it, so I have to go back and get another, or something else at least. It was only $6, and is so cute, kind of a poncho type thing. I might buy her another and get one for my sis who lives in town. Dh has an appointment with Vocational Rehab, we need them to help him get back to work, if that is possible. They helped paid for him to go to school and graduate, but that was almost 12 years ago, and he has been unable to find a job in the field he graduated from (he has a BS in computer science). When he got a job at a convienence store, they closed his case saying he had a job. He kept that job until I forced him to quit because his blood pressure was climbing high. Well the blood pressure is good again but now his back is giving him troubles. Hopefully they will help him find something that will do him good. If not, we are going to look into SS disability or Medicaid disability.
Leasmom, hope you find someone who will take care of your daughter.
Well, I have rambled on long enough. Hope everyone has a happy, healthy, frugal day today.

Have any of you used the coffee warmer plates for your container candles? I just brought mine in to work today (had a hard time finding a "safe" place for it where it wouldn't get knocked over by a co worker or a customer finally found a small corner of my credenza. Today I'm burning Drakkar M, it smells good. I'm going to start bringing in different scents to burn each day (shhh, good advertising ).

Talk again soon.

Anna

Anna i have done this and do it all the time it works reallly well just like burning them just no open flame.

I didn't know you could do that with container candles. Maybe I could try that with older ones that are burnt out but still have wax in them. I have done leftover wax from votive candles in a cup on the coffee burner. It works well for a long while and then kind of loses it's scent. Mmm, I bet those candles do smell good. It would probably make me hungry too.
Momofgems, good luck with your frugalness today. I hope things work out for your dh. Have a nice afternoon, everyone!

Oh yes I highly recommend using a mug warmer to use up all that extra candle wax... it will last quite a while longer doing that, which is frugal for both you and the environment. I have a candle that someone gave us as a gift that burned straight down but not on one half side of the candle (not the right size wick for the container I'm thinking). Anyways once it's done burning to the bottom I'll put it on the mug warmer and melt it down and use till the fragrance is gone, then throw it away.

I know we're not on the topic of herbs anymore, but I just remembered a really great book some of you might be interested in. It's called, Frugal Luxuries, by Tracey McBride. It's actually a book on frugality, but she has an entire section about herbs and different ways of using them. The beginning of the book is a little wordy, but if you skip past that, there is a lot of great stuff. Most of the book is talking about how her husband lost his job and how they were able to find simple, inexpensive luxuries to get through the tough times. Anyway, just thought I'd share that. Take care and have a good evening, everyone.

That sounds like a really good read. Can't wait for spring and planting our flowers, waiting for my snow crocus to pop up and my Forsythia bush to flower! I am really tired of winter.

I love herbs too and someone mentioned mint... I have apple mint although dh did his darndest to kill it last year, theres no doubt in my mind it will come back again. I've noted on here before I just shake my head in disbelief when I see the prices they are charging in the stores for that stuff.

Now heres a thought: Has anyone thought about drying mints and selling on ebay?

Good idea, Anna! According to the tea thread it sounds like a lot of people drink mint tea. Lavender would be good to sell too, but, of course, it's not as plentiful as mint.

Good news!

Two people told me about the same place, a drop-off child care center I knew nothing about. They are even open until 11 at night and on Saturdays. They charge $5 an hour and so I can drop her off there on Saturdays and it'll cost me $20 for 4 hrs, so that's $40 a month. I told my supervisor because it would mean that I would be late but she was happy about it too. So that's great, problem solved-whew!!! I can also drop her off when I want time to myself.
