LorieMae, hope you are feeling better today.
We haven't met in person yet, but were are going to !
Maybe we will even meet at the Walmart. It is only a few miles from my home.
We have Target, too, and another store I like that called BiMart. Lorie Mae likes it, too. It is not very big, but a nice variety store. Not crowded and crazy like some stores and have good prices, too. We also have HiSchool pharmacy with True Value Hardware in them. One of my favorite stores. Value Village, too, plus Goodwill, as Lorie Mae said. Winco foods for cheap groceries. You should see the bulk food section ! Really amazing. My dd drives an hour here and leave my grandson with me just so she can shop here at Winco and Value Village. It saves her tons of money.
Carolyn, the fish ladder is fun. Also, did you see Multnomah Falls? Lots of waterfalls around. They do the sailboards and windsurfing at Hood River. Hood River is known for the apple and pear crops.
Wow, 3 pages to catch up on! My first car was a '66 Mustang. I bought it myself for $500. Wish I had it now - it would be worth a lot!
I do an evenlope-type system by using my checking account and 2 registers. When I make a deposit, I enter the amount I'm "putting away" in a seperate register with pages labeled for insurance, taxes, whatever. Then the rest of the deposit gets entered in the regular register for current expenses. It works for me (and gives me an automatic cushion against accidental overdrafts). I just have to remember to have both registers in front of me when I try to balance with the bank statement.
There's another winter storm moving in this afternoon. It just started to snow. That should help keep us frugal. DH & I both have the weekend off, and we're not going anywhere.
But cabin fever is definitely setting in. Yesterday, my 3-year-old wanted to have a birthday party for his stuffed dog! And I went along with it! We baked a cake, sang Happy Birthday, even made a birthday card for a stuffed animal!!!
Blizzard panic is setting in here in Columbus. Some of the girls I work with leave at 3pm.. it's 4:15 here now. They went to the closest grocery store and said it is packed to the gills... no parking spaces anywhere close to the store. People in town totally freak out when they say theres a winter storm approaching and buy up everything not nailed down??? Too weird. We were talking here at work and both agreed "why would you not be stocked up on basics all the time?". I wish they would start a column in our local paper teaching better preparation. If you just buy one extra item each week, you are on your way. Example: Buy 2 packs of toilet paper, put one back.
Well guess that's about it for now.

I’d Like To Help You Out.. Which Way Did You Come In?
I did veer off from the diapers at Target.....They did have some good deals though, I remembered to bring my coupon holder so I got:
Bic Razor 13 pk lady shaver for .87 cents
Aquafresh Extreme Clean (2) tubes for .72 cents
Winter coat for ds1 for next year 9.98 Reg price was 40.00!
slotted spoon (large) .48 cents
large reg spoon .98 cents
15 roll paper towels (scott) for 6.58
Chex Cereal 1.14 (lg box)
I tell you End Cap shopping pays off!
The coat we got for ds is big now but I am sure will fit next winter! Theres plenty of room! There is no way his current coat will fit next year but we did use it for 2 seasons bought the same way! Plus they will be hand me downs for his db!
I know the spoons were not a neccesity, but the ones I had were in such poor shape!
Anna,
Were supposed to get the big storm as well and dh mentioned that the gas went up from yesterday by .20 cents a gallon. Luckily he filled up yesterday. If the snow is really bad tommorow we will be staying in. We have milk and plenty of supplies so will be just fine.
Other frugal thing today is dh was trying to talk me into fast food for lunch after Target I said NO NO NO. We came home and finished off the majority of leftovers from this weeks meals. Very happy about that.
Vickielynn ...LOL a birthday party for a stuffed animal, what a hoot...but I bet it was fun!
Anna , we are waiting on 6 to 12 inches of snow and you would think we never got snow before....people are buying extra milk ,toliot paper ,bread and anything else they can get in there cart....not to mention de icer and shovels etc....I have not been out my dd stopped on her way home from work and said the Walmart was packed!

Grandchildren are Gods way of compensating us for growing old.
Yup...we've got wal-marts down here too...we have a super center here in Grants Pass and I know there is one half an hour in either direction from us too.
Ok...bought more than the pack of diapers BUT they were necessary for the birthday party tomorrow...extra frosting...cups and a cute birthday gift for the birthday boy. Nothing for mama!!!
We have Bi-Mart down here too and I like it...they have a great coupon book they mail to members on a monthly basis.
Gotta go clean for tomorrow...have a lovely evening...
Gas jumped $.18 overnight here as well, was glad I filled up dh's car yesterday when I used it to take dd to school since it was cleared off and warm.
School was cancelled today so I had both kids with me at the church fair at the mall. DD1 was dragging kids to our church's fish pond, LOL. I did have to keep saying NO NO NO to everything she saw and wanted at the mall on the way in & out. Salvation Army did have a bouncy bag thing so the kids got to jump around in it for about 15 min for free when we left.
I went to Kroger's this afternoon as I needed to get milk for the weekend and get a few other things we were out of before the snow hit tonight currently they are saying 4-7" on top of the 3-4" that we already have. Milk was on sale $1 a half gallon got 4 and I picked up 4 Kroger cereals $1 for 7.8 oz box, bought 4 Kroger tomatoe 28 oz can for $1 each, Lipton noodles 5/$3.40 , 6 lb apples for $2.89, 8 lb oranges for $3.49, 2 jars Ragu for $.60 each.
I think they do something to you when you walk through the doors of a Wal*Mart! LOL! It must be because I always want to buy, buy, buy! We must be strong ladies! We can overcome this! Sometimes I dread going there because I know I'll over spend. It sure does feel good though the few times I do come out with the one or two things that I went in for!
