ldyroper - yup, it does use Catalina or French dressing. Here's the recipe.
Catalina Salad
1 lb hamburger browned and drained
1 onion, cooked with hamburger
1 lb grated cheddar cheese
1 small can of chopped olives, drained
1 can of kidney or black beans, drained
1 head of iceburg lettuce, shredded
1 10 oz bag of Fritto's or other tortilla style chips
1 bottle Catalina or French dressing
Put hamburger, onion mixture in a large bowl, add cheese and olives and mix well. Add lettuce and beans and mix well. Add dressing and Fritto's and mix well.
I haven't made this yet, but they made it on the show I watched and they all said it was good. It's kind of like a taco salad but without seasoning the hamburger. I'm going to make it tomorrow, I bought some low carb French dressing.
I to miss the Pacific Northwest! I grew up in Silverdale, Washington and I love that area!
Minimum wage is under $6 here. The cost of living is a lot lower than in Washington. Our mortgage payment is around $800.

Hi Everyone, I've been down with the crud so there are so many posts I can't respond to all. People with new homes, Good Job on mortgage payments and NEW Homes.
I live in Portland, Or and have lived here since I was 6. We moved up here from Seaside, Or to where there was more opportunity for work for my Dad. I love it here, we have 4 seasons, winter is usually the worst. I love summer here not usually too hot but sometimes it can get there.
The housing market here varies depending on where you want to live. There are some places that go for millions around here. we have a 3 broom 1 1/2 bath ranch style 50x150 lot, and it's worth 275,000 fair market value. That's not what people usually ask for when selling they usually go for more. We have the new light rail a couple of blocks away from here and that has jacked up our price since last summer.
Portland can be spendy to live here, but we have lots of nice restaurants and Art Museum lots of things. 90 minutes to the coast, Columbia River to fish in.
I'm actually really close to Linda Lou though we have never met.
But in defence of pricy Portland, Seattle is worse.
We also have losts of frugal stuff here, The Goodwill, Grocery outlet, Powells Books, numerous thrift stores and coffee shops everywhere!
Laurie, I hope you are feeling better. We had that too. It does kind of hang on.
Thanks for the recipe, Carol. It sounds really good. I think I will make that for supper tomorrow. I have all the ingredients but the chips. Kids ate those the other day.
Frugal today is having leftovers for lunch and reserving 12 books online from the library. Love my library. Hopefully, they won't be available all at once. Otherwise I will be doing some heavy reading. I made some giant meatballs with spaghetti sauce for supper tonight. That way it could go with or without spaghetti. Pretty much just trying to use things we have without making another trip to the store. Other than that, we walked the dogs and got our mail.(our driveway is 1/4 mile and downhill). It was a long and chilly walk only to discover it was all junk mail. Oh, well. -Wore myself and the dogs out anyway. Take care and everyone stay warm!

I've never been to the pacific northwest but have always wanted to visit. DH used to tell me how much he enjoyed it when he was in the navy and they would pull into bremerton (sp?) and he also fell in love with Victoria, BC and often spoke of moving there until we relocated to the east coast.
frugal today .... going to cash in my recycling that didn't go out to the curb. I also remembered to stop the dishwasher at the dry cycle and have kept thermostat at 67 degrees. I have to wear slippers or socks but then the keyspan bill comes in it's definately worth it!!!I'
Go Sandra go! You can do it! Only diapers, only diapers, rah rah rah!
Frugal today is making a dish of cheese enchiladas- when I can bring myself to get up and do something- to stick in the freezer for those times when we have a Mexican food craving. Pop 'em in the oven and no money spent on take-out!
I'm going to walk up to my son's school again to bring him home rather than driving.
I'm sure there's something else I'll do today that's frugal, but since I'm having difficulty planning ahead (I'm all congested in the head today), I'll have to report what it is after I do it!
sandra!! Did you say "Walmart?!! Tom says there are no Walmarts in Portland. At least when I was there I didn't see a one and he said no no no. Target ...Yes Yes Yes. So there must be some in the southern part. Yes, I know about the Rogue Festival as my son and wife are a part of that every year. I am just not there when its happening.
I feel like its home there thats all I know when I am there. I love being surrounded by mountains and the gorge is my fav place to go. Tom and I went on the riverboat ride on the gorge in Oct and I can't describe what I was feeling standing at the front of the boat like the couple on the Titanic in the movie and riding the river not seeing anything but the river in front of me and imagining how Lewis and Clard must have felt seeing that for the first time. I just had to call my girlfriend back in Mich on tom's cell phone at that very moment to tell her the view I was looking at....We also went to the dam and saw the ladders where the salmon go through. Its so awesome. A lady sits there every day and counts the fish coming and going all day. You can see them and its just tantilizing to be there.
Can't wait to return to Oregon....... Oh yes I think its where the Columbia and the other river that runs from downtown portland merge and its real windy, we saw where they sail with kites and boards its amazing and oh so wonderful!!!
Gotta Love it!!!
