Sounds like some great gardens growing. I started a couple heirloom tomato plants this year and they are fruiting nicely. I'm also working on some planter boxes for a nice herb garden. Going to put some Mint, basil, and thyme in them to start.
Anyone have some good tips for tomatoes? A lot of blossoms have been falling off unpollinated.
jtsdad - I don't have any tips for tomatoes. Mine seem to survive in spite of me. I will say, however, be careful where you plant the mint. It tends to take over very quickly. I grow it in a pot all by itself.
For me, we are just starting to get tomatoes but they aren't deep red, but they are tasty. I have been lazy about harvesting the chard, there's a ton of that. I think next year I'll put in more peas and beans since dh staked them even though they are bush varieties they are doing better. And I saw the first carrot and got a nibble and it was all sweet and earthy tasting. We've been enjoying broccoli and finally the side shoots are producing. I had put the pepper plants between the broccoli and red cabbage and they aren't doing so well, too cool and shady. Peppers like the heat so next year will give them some. The zucchini have been reasonable and keeping to their own spot. And the red cabbage is forming heads. I love red cabbage cooked or raw.
But my flowers? Not so great since I haven't been diligent about deadheading. Never did trim back the roses so they really didn't do well with the japanese beetles nor a second bloom. The pile of mulch still sits in my driveway and so the perennials are gasping in this heat. If I can get it on them by the fall frosts then maybe next year they'll have a chance at better display.

hi,
my garden is doing great. we are enjoying fresh potatoes, carrots, beans, tomatoes, cucumber and fresh herbs. We had lots of berries also on the property but now the season is over. we had wild blueberries that are thousand times better tasting than the cultivated ones, wild strawberries and rasberries also. with all the rain we sometimes get even edible mushrooms. i sometimes post pics and garden things in my blog http://homemoma.blogspot.com/. but since i spend lots of time in the country and i dont have internet connection there i dont update it often.
i am having trouble with pumpkins and corn this year. dont know why.
we don't have much of a garden and we can't do much too it as we are in rented property, but my kiddies have just planted peas, cucumbers and tomato plants and they are growing quite nicely
HI My first time posting in this thread. I have a great garden. I have potatoes, rhubarb, 3 kinds of peppers, 3 kinds of tomatoes, cucumber, zuchini, pumpkin(taking over my garden lol) 3 kinds of lettus, onions and beans. We have lived here for just over a year now so I am still "testing" what the soil will grow.
I have tonnes of tomatoes, but they seem to be slow turning colour this year.

We planted seeds for cherry tomatoes this year. So far, they are growing like crazy! We have 6 little green tomatoes so far but there's a possibility for lots more!! I'm so excited about this because before this, I've never been able to get anything to grow.
