chuckle funny camping story

One of our funniest camping trips was a couple years ago. We decided to camp outside Ocean City, MD. Our kids were about 3 and 5. The drive was long(about6 hours). We dedided to leave early evening so maybe the girls could sleep a little. We go at our site around 11 or 12 that night. When we were pitching our tent, (we got a spot by some water), we were attacked by mosquitos. The girls started getting attacked and were crying. We did have some repellant and globbed some on all of us. The wind started picking up and the tent was hard to put up. We finally settled in for a good nights sleep. We did have fun at the beaches and playground. It was a sunny day. We were walking around the campground talking with some folks and I was checking out everyones set-ups. I noticed some tarps up, but didnt think anything of it. Of course, we are not professional campers with everything you need. We are known to forget hammers and string. Anyway we didnt put the tarp up, and at midnight we had a terrencial downpour. It was not funny at the time, but we left sopping wet and got a hotel room for 75 bucks which we didnt have. The next day was miserable because we had to pack up all our wet things and fit them in the car. I put all wet things in the truck and we drove with the cooler and stove in the back seat. Then it was Fathers Day , so we stopped and had some lunch at a cute little place on the way home. Not quite the perfect vacation like we planned, but I think we learned a couple things since then.lol

I remember taking our grandma along on a camping trip when I was still a child. Grandma Me-Me was not much of the outdoors type. To compare the two of us, she would not go to the grocery store withour her makeup. I hardly EVER where makeup.

One night she screamed bloody murder,as she ran out of her tent waking everyone up because a snake had gotten into her sleeping bag!
That snake turned out to be a shoelace!!!!

peace,train

We have had so many experiences and funny stories. The one that was the best was when our family - 7 total with a friend and another family 7 total went to Myrtle Beach. On the way our friends car broke down so we all had to pile in our car and small travel trailer. One mom was sitting in the back window with a child, that child was waving to the car in the back when another then another...until five kids poped up and waved to the guy. He was like how many are there. Then when we got to the camp ground the ranger came around and asked how many and the oldest said 14. The ranger looked at the trailer and the dining fly and gave us a much lower rate as the charge was by person. The oldest child failed to mention to him that it was two families.

think one of the funnies thing was the time we had adult leader trainging as I was in scouting..

we had a cobbler cook off

everyone knew this guy and I was having fun by saying our would be the best, and we were sort of serious as well about this.

well we both fixed our cobbler up, then as it was in the kooling stages we was time for a ceremony away from the area we cooked our cobbler in.

when we got back his cobbler was gone. he thought I had tooken it, and I told him I didn't. this went on for a while, and all this time he still thought I did it. we all were sitting aound the fire eating other cobblers that was not in the cook off, everyone was teasing me about this , saying I was afraid I would lose so I took his,

long story short, we found his cobbler later, on the path to the bathroom, before this I was beginning to think he done somethig to his cobbler to bllame me.

a racoon had came by while we were gone and drug the pan the cobbler was cooked in as well as the cobbler, the whole thing away.... and we found the pan, and the half eaten cobbler

we still laught about this to day.

I guess I could have... but I knew this wasn't fair, so I challege him again, and the next time it was a tie, really I did like his better too. We were good friends thru scouting....

sad thing about getting out of scouting is people goes their separte ways and the friendships seems to fade away, for the bond was scouting... yet I do have some friendships that started during scouting and still going strong, 2 in fact are like that, and I treasure both friendships.

Boy that racoon had a feast....his was a blackberry cobbler and I did up a
cherry boy did he feel funny when we discover the trail to this cobbler too.. for it was pieces scatter to make this trail until we found the pan... had to be a stroong raccoon to take the pan.. LOL

Yes scouting is great, I have both a Weeblo cub scout and a Brownie. So I guess I will be having some more funny camping stories soon.

Here is a good story with my sister and her family.

S #1 is 16 yrs old. M is 13 and S #2 is 9 yrs old.

First, no one wanted to help pack or get anything ready for vacation, so we didn't leave until 3:30 on Wednesday. We get to the campground and the site they gave us was small & had two mud spots (one very large where the cars had driven through with tire tracks) So, the only place to put the tent was next to the water pipe & mud hole or overtop of tree roots(big ones). And after being out of the car for only about 5 minutes we were being eaten alive by all the man eating mosqitos.
So, S #1 was already complaining "I want to go home" the first five minutes. We got fire wood delivered to our site-$7 a bundle (you aren't allowed to bring your own) and couldn't get it to light(even with lighter fluid). It just wouldn't stay burning. So we had not camp fire the first night and the skies decided to open up around 1 a.m. And of course - OUR TENT LEAKS - It was thundering & lightening right over top of us until 5 in the morning. S#1 got up around 2 - demanded the car keys and went into the jeep for a few hours. I finally got up around 7 & M's pillow was soaked and there were puddles in the tent. WHAT A NIGHT.
We get up have breakfast between raindrops & head to the Cape May Zoo. Kids grumbling all the way. It poured all day, we had a late lunch out thinking it might clear up and get back around 4 to check the weather for the rest of the week to see if we should just go home or stay. Because by this time it was so stinking hot & the mosqitos were worse than before because of the rain. So, I have S #1 crying & boohooing to go home & S #2 crying because she wants to stay!

So we decide to stay and try to start a fire with even wetter wood than before - because it got rained on all night and day!!!! YIPPEE
We get the fire going and had a nice night - it had cooled off a little.
We get up Friday morning & I made breakfast for the kids & let dh sleep. He gets up around 10:30 and wakes up all in a panic at the time and lets the air out of all the mattresses - thinking that we were leaving that morning. I don't know why he thought we were leaving on Friday not Saturday. But the kicker was the pump for the mattresses had broke on Wed. so he used my hair dryer to pump up the mattresses & broke that one,so he used S#1s hair dryer & Broke that one - So we had nothing to pump up the mattresses again!
It just kept getting better & better!
Are you laughing yet - because I am, just thinking about it!

You know the whole time the kids kept saying - why can't we get a camper like aunt Charlottes!

I have had some funny camping trips but this one was a classic.
