We are packing and will be gone within three weeks or less. I am praying for the less! Post any tips you have for me! I will post a update on my progress.
Today I have sorted through the family room in the basement. My goal is to have it all packed up by tonight. I am so tired of packing, if I don't love something then it will be sold. Makes my life much easier. Dh and I agree, there will not be a window covering, shade or rod left when we leave. FIL has made it very clear he wants us OUT so he can make money on the house. We will get out as fast as we can.... lol. Like I want to stay? LOL

throw or give away things you do not want, do not carry it with you.
if you think you will do a garage sale later, think about your time, and think hard on when would you have it.
If it to long, get rid of it now, for later you will have other things to put into a garage sale.
Get plenty of help to help you to move
pack things in your towels, cup towels, oven mits, as well as newspaper, When you pack things in sheets, towels, etc, it does 2 things.
One is you packing 2 things at a time, and you using that padding for your breakables.
mark your boxes to the room it goes into, as well as what is in the box if all possible.
if there is more than one thing that goes into the box, mark both things that are in that box.
example, you have a bedroom and maybe something from the Living roo, mark that on that box that way.
then mark what, things from the dresser, things of Gregg's, things of your, etc.
this way it will save time when you unpack.
do not over pack boxes to make it hard to move, for Gregg may not be there to move them, and you have to.
I am labeling the box with what is in it PLUS I have a box drop off on each floor. That is labeled on the box too. I am getting rid of so much stuff! Feels wonderful. I am using my fabric stash to pack things in. We are having a moving sale every day until we leave. What doesn't sell will get tossed. We have a ton of books for sale, any ideas what to do with them if they don't sell? Donating to the local library is not a good idea right now..... the librarian just quit.

do you have a half price bookstore, if so check with them to see how much they will give you for the books.
freecycle
church, or senior citizen home, nursing homes, of course it would depend on what kind of books they are.
often folks forget that those in nursing homes likes to read.
good for you on gettting rid of things. better to do it now, than latter when life turns upside down for you and expected moments.
There is a store that will buy then but I would have to drive forever to take them there. I will see what happens.... The family room is almost done. I started in the storage room. Wow...... I had so much stuff. I am tossing, tossing, tossing..... Gregg is wanting to sell, sell, sell,........ I think if I bought it at a thrift store, chances are slim that someone else will want to buy it. I am making box lots, a child's craft box, a child's music box........ Hopefully those will get some or a lot of little items out of here.
LOL I started sending friend requests on facebook to everyone I could think of that lives here. I am posting on FB what I am putting on the sale.

Connie, I'm going to move your question to the "moving tips" subforum so that it will get more recognition.
In that subforum, there is a thread called " Packing Tips and Tricks" that is filled with lots of good tips.
Good luck with your move!! I've had to do that all too many times in the last couple of years.

Don't toss things that you can donate to GoodWill or to a shelter.
It sounds like you are on top of everything! I even wrapped my silverware and kitchen ware in kitchen towels. Cover one end of an empty paper towel roll with heavy masking tape or packing tape. Fill the tube with steak knives or anything sharp like that. Tape the open end shut. Write on the tube what is inside.
This is my favorite tip and I do this every time we move:
Pack a "Move In" box for your family to use the night you arrive. Fill it with towels, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper(!), deodarent, night clothes, hairbrush and a change of clean clothes for in the morning. I always add a new shower curtain liner and hooks too.

not necessary.
Last night the church got my things out of storage, to start setting up a garage sale this weekend for me. One of the tables that I picked up from a yard sale, was sold. She paid me more than what I gave for it.
this has happened to me in the past before as well. so do not cut yourself short.
If you liked it so could someone else, otherwise it wouldn't of been there. The trick is find that someone. So give it a shot, if it doens't sale, you not lost nothing, if it did sale, you be thankful you put it in the garage sale.
What you don't sell you could donate to a local charity that is having a fundraising sale. They should be able to give you a tax paper the same as Goodwill or the Salvation Army or even the VA.
