Homemade Jiffy Pop??

Is there any reason this won't work?
I have two big foil roast pans. If I put kernels and oil and put one pan as a lid for the other, then place on the fire pit grill, it should become popcorn right?? With 6 people in the family one wee thing of Jiffy Pop won't go far -- and Jiffy Pop is over $2 here. How much oil? I usually air pop at home.
Thanks!
Jo-Anne

I'm thinking this would work as long as you have a handle attached so that you can shake it over the fire.

I love popcorn over a camp fire!

You will need to make sure the fire isn't too hot. Place a grill over the fire to cook on. Cover the bottom of your pan with oil, add popcorn 1 layer deep, cover and shake constantly so popcorn won't burn.

Love & Prayers,
Linda

I think it will work. When I was growing up we always made our popcorn in a big stock pot on the gas range, I think that this would be similar. I think as long as you keep it shaking while it is popping it will cook fine.

I agree with "keep it shaking" since those foil pans are thin. And somehow attach a handle.

I agree that it seems reasonable that this would work, if you can get the cover on real tight and attach some kind of handle, because it will burn otherwise. Maybe there's some way to bend a metal coat hanger and tape it to the side?

What a great idea! I never thought of using anything except the Jiffy pop kind.
