Bungalows

I've become fascinated with the 1950's 1960's hotels and bungalow parks in the Catskills and would love to find something similar for a one-two week vacation w/ my family (2 kids ages 2 and 5). Need a lake, bungalow/cottage, on-premises store, Bingo at night-- a camp sort of experience. Can anyone recommend something on the east coast? We live in Virginia.

There are several of these type places in the NC mountains and even at the SC beaches, and the NC outer banks some of the campgrounds have cottages, bungalows, I have also stayed in one in upper Georgia. All of the campgrounds have family night activities, like Bingo, covered dish dinners etc.. We enjoy Tennessee near Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area campgrounds. In Cherokee NC on the indian reservation you can even sleep in Teepees. If you want the names of some specific places I can search for you. I'm not sure if you want a beach experience but last weekend i took my 14 yr son to Wildwood NJ for a wrestling tournament and by chance we stayed at the COOLEST 50's motel. It was the Starlux just one building back from the beach. They have a web site that explains the room combo's and there is a 3 bedroom cottage - house as well as 2 Airstreams campers available to rent. It was so cool I wanted to blow off the tournament and just stay in the hotel all day. They show movies in a "lounge" each night Worth looking into I think.
