Aussie to American Accent

Just curious, there are a lot of Aussies on US tv and in movies, Example;
Julian McMahon (Nip Tuck, Charmed)
Miranda Otto and Frances O'Connor (Cashmere Mafia)
Simon Baker (LA Confidential, The Guardian)
Alan Dale (Ugly Betty)
Isla Fisher (The Wedding Crashers
Without a Trace (Anthony LaPaglia)
These people have done many more but can't name them all ........

Just to name a few. Can you pick them as being Aussies putting on an american accent.
We can pick some one trying for an Aussie accent easily, they come out sounding more Pommie English or New Zealander.

Kathy, I don't know any of the examples you gave - not much of a TV viewer, except for Anthony LaPaglia. I can generally spot people putting on a fake American accent. To me, they always sound like a "Western" or "cowboy" accent. I have to say that I had no idea that Anthony LaPaglia is Australian. I thought he was an American. Now I'll have to make a point to listen to him carefully!

I had no idea Anthongy L. was Aussie, either! I love him!! My husband can only watch him for a little while though before he gets on his nerves because he says that he is so monotone.

There is a girl on Y&R who play Colleen --she takes a lot of crap from people here because of her Aussie accent that she tries to overcome to play an American without an accent.

How about all of the hub bub about the Geiko Geckos and all of the different accents that they have had. lol!!

Poppy Montogmery of Without a Trace is an Aussie also, so that show must almost feel like home LOL
Of course there's Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Nicole Kidman ......
You have China Town maybe the next thing will be Aussie Town LOL

Y&R went to pay tv here so don't see that anymore and I don't know of the Geckos.
Some go way over the top in the Au accent and we cringe at the Kangaroo Jack kinda movies LOL

I was surprised when I found out that Hugh Jackman was an Aussie. The first thing I had seen him in was "X Men". Since then, I have also seen him in a film where he is supposed to be British. I thought he did a very convincing British accent as well. Of course, the Brits propably don't think so - lol!

Kathy, I don't blame you for cringing at Kangaroo Jack. I think it's obvious that that was an exaggeration!

Barb I guess that could be the posh type plumb in the mouth English with a bit of bad Aussie thrown in, hard to describe but if I could point it out to you when I heard it, it would be easier to show you, I know makes no sense but there you go LOL

I wonder if Anthony LaPaglia talks in a monotone cause that's the way he keeps his American accent.

Portia DeRossi
Rachael Griffiths
Toni Collette
Wow the list gets longer as I think on it LOL

Toni Collette is one of my favorite actresses! I first saw her in "Muriel's Wedding" and thought she was fantastic. Since then she has convinced me she's British and American! She is a real chameleon!

Jodi Fosters new movie Nimms Island is made In my state about 45 mins south of us, lots of Aussies in that movie though big ones that maybe the US would know but I will be face watching to see who is in it.

I love Julian McMahon as the bad guy he plays a good one he was in Fantastic 4, his dad was a Prime Minister here when I was very young.
I love watching these actors in Au they've been around here for years and then to see them with American accents id funny LOL
