I watched it for the 1st time last night, they definately sent home the right person, what was he thinking by giving a car to a "not so needy person? The soldier and his family he was trying to help should have got the car. Anyone else been watching this?

I saw part of it last week and all of last night's. What an interesting and powerful show.
I do agree with the spirit of the person who was sent home last night... he wanted to thank the giver for being so giving... but yeah, I would have definitely given the car to the soldier and his family. They're trying to start over, and everyone who needs to start over can use a vehicle.
I thought the woman who got the special day together for the women in the AIDS home did such a special thing. I worried what the judges would think because you know their saying... "Give big or go home," and she didn't get any actual monetary donations. But I thought it was fortunate that the judges saw past that and recognized that sometimes the gifts you give do not have monetary value- such as making someone who does not normally feel special feel like a princess, because though she may wear the crown for a day, she will always remember that the crown was once there. You just can't put a price tag on some gifts.
Oh I totally agree, I felt so bad when one of the women with Aids, said how they feel like, they are just stuck there and forgotten, I have to say I didnt think Jamie Oliver would be a good judge for some reason, but he has surprised me, he has real good insight.

I really like the show. I also thought the right person was sent home. I thought he should have given the car to the military family. I don't know what he was thinking.
The women with aids brought tears to my eyes.
Looking forward to the next episode.

I haven't seen it yet.Looks like it could be intersting.I did hear from 2 people that are reading the book and don't care for it at all.Good thing I am in no rush to go and buy it.
I watched the first half of the first show and I decided that I really didn't like it much. The idea of the show is great-but I don't like 'reality' shows much and with this one I don't think 5 days for the first show is enough time to really do something for someone in need-now if all you're doing is giving away money it's plenty of time.
I know that some of the couples were able to pull off what they planned but it's not my cup of tea.......
I like the idea of giving someone alot of money that they have to give away or use for people who are in need-but if these contestants didn't tell people that they were on Oprah's give away show they probably wouldn't have accomplished what they did in the timeframe they had.
My 'reality' shows are Extreme Home Makeover, Cops and America's Most Wanted.

Mish the book you are talking about is a totally different thing than this show, the Book is The Good Earth(or something like that) and Oprah has a discussion website about it, the show is The Big Give, and its about strangers giving to others in need, they get the money from Oprah, are put in a certain city and have to find a way to to do something good with the money, they arent given any instructions, they have to do it on their own, then they eliminate the person who they think did the worst job.
