Hi,

I'm in Huntsville. I've lived here all of my life and love it. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else. (Maybe somewhere warmer in the winter time) :p

Hope to see alot of Alabamians here!

Kathy

HELLO ALL

I reside in Monroeville, home of "To Kill a Mockingbird". Or that is I did reside in Monroeville up until 2 weeks ago. We now live in a rural community about 15 miles east of Monroeville.

If anyone is heading this way, just let me know and I'll give you a few ideas of things to do while in the area. We are small and don't have much to offer, but what we do have is worth the effort. Ofcourse, we always have the courthouse, and yes it is exactly the same as shown in the movie. As years went by there were changes made, but in the last few years, great efforts have been made to bring it back to its original state.

Would love to hear from everyone and want to know what every one has to offer as far as sight seeing in their communities. We love to ride motorcycles and take short day trips.

Keep posting!

Hi Audrey and Everyone

I enjoyed reading your post and am not sure where Monroeville is located. South Alabama///, North???

What type of bikes do you ride? My husband and I have a Harley.

In Huntsville we're called "The Rocket City', because of the Space and Rocket Center, Marshall's Space Flight Center and Space Camp. We have museums and Monte Sano mountain that is beautiful. Has cabins that you can rent. We have the Tennessee River that is known everywhere for fishing. And alot more if anybody would be interested.............

Hope to hear from ya'll soon,
Kathy in Huntsville:p

Hi everyone!

I'm in a small rural town called Centre, in Cherokee County. It's in NE Alabama between Birmingham and Huntsville near the Georgia state line! We offer a lot of outdoor activities here, including hunting, fishing and camping. We are home to Weiss Lake "The Crappie Capitol of the World" and Little River Canyon. It's nice to see all of you here!

Hi!

Great fishing in Centre! When I was a little girl my Grandaddy who lived in Georgia, on the border of GA and AL, would take me there every summer. I loved it! It's one of my favorite childhood memories.

Thanks for reminding me of that...... ;-)

Hello All,

Monroeville is in SW Alabama. Approx. 90 miles north of Mobile.

The Bike we own now is a 1979 Honda Goldwing in mint condition. My husband wanted to sell this one and get another, but I said no. I have become to attached to it. Besides, it is worth more now that it was when we bought it because of the age and condition. We are planning to get a newer one to ride on the longer rides.

We ride with the Southern Cruisers. Do any of you belong to one of these groups? We actually belong to the Clark County Chapter because Monroe County doesn't have a chapter.

Any one that is headed this way on their bike and want to ride the curves, we have some really good roads to ride.

Also, that fishing in Centre sounds real good. We may have to wander up that way one weekend. Do they have cabins at this lake?

Gotta go, Keep posting.

chuckle Boiled Peanuts

On our way to Gulf Shores, one of our rituals is to stop and buy boiled peanuts. Does anyone know how to prepare them?

(I'm from Arkansas)

Hope you have a wonderful time in Gulf Shores. Boiling peanuts is easy, just put them in a pot, add salt to taste and boil until done.

I never time my peanuts. I just start tasting and cook until they get as done as I want them. After they finish cooking, they are best if you let them sit in the salt water a while. They soak up a little more of the salt. It takes a good bit of salt when cooking them.

If you like the cajun style, you can add cajun seasoning or hot sauce as you boil.

I always use the green peanuts. Some people boil the dry ones, but it takes less time and the dry ones don't get as soft as I like them.

If you like to shop, you will pass through Foley. There is a huge outlet shopping center in Foley. You can't miss it. It is on the Gulf Shores Parkway. Will be on your left as you go in. It is called the Riveria Centre. You may already know all of this, but it never hurts to know where the good shopping centers are.

Gota go. Keep in touch.

Been here almost 2 years. We live in the Huntsville area.
Too hot and humid here this year but the milder winters beat the cold and snow from where I grew up!
