Well at 8 weeks we went to Birmingham,AL where we were during the war then we went to Japan after the war for 3+ years (I loved it there) after that back to AL then NJ where I went between Bordentown and Savannah GA all during grammar and high school. Then married and been all over kingdom since then in those 54 yrs. Oh before Japan we were also in Columbus Oh

Janet when I was in Japan it was the "old" Japan nothing like it is now. All wore kimonos.I love d going to their shrines (certain times we were not allowed as they were there praying). We lived in government housing and had maids and a houseboy. BUT we never referred to them as that as neither of my parents liked those terms they became our friends and VERY trustworthy. We kept in contact with them thro' the years till God called them home. One "maid" was Setsuko and the other Motoko and the houseboy was Heilo (never have seen another Japanese man with name spelled like that). We went to the homes of both Setsuko and Motoko. Shortly before we were rotated back to states Motoko was diagnosed with TB so she could no longer work and we were "given" Junko. She too was nice but did not develop that closeness with her because of the little time left. We called her Jinglebells because she came to us 2 days before Christmas. After some one explained to her why she laughed and liked it. We use to go ice skating use to do a lot of things

What wonderful memories you have of your time in Japan. You should write your stories down for your family for even if you told them this, they might forget.

Where did you move after Japan..and what do you remember of that place?

After Japan which was Tokyo and Dad worked at Haneda Air Base. The housing area we lived in was called Washington Heights a brand new development no trees nothing but the houses and sidewalks but that soon changed. We enjoyed seeing the bare ground turn into lovely grass/trees and plants.
We came back to B'ham AL but were there less than a year if I remember right and then moved to Bordentown, NJ as a great guy that Dad worked with (that we kids called Uncle Jack) had his own business a welding shop. And he sent word to Dad that he had a job for him if he wanted to come up there. So Dad took a bus there checked things out and came back down to B'ham packed all our stuff in back of this LONGGGG truck as well as an area with the double bed mattress right behind the window in back of truck. That is where we kids were and we knocked on the window when either of us had to go potty. Needless to say long before seat belts lol. I remember that trip well and we enjoyed it.
To be honest I don't remember that much about B'ham itself, except for the Iron Man a HUGE statue that we always climbed to the top that was a lot of steps. We lived near RED mountain (that is what we called it) at 1328 16th Place SW. My God parents ownd a grocery store I use to stock the canned goods for them for few dollars before and after Japan.

I'm not sure if my sis comes here or not To be honest it never occured to me to ask her LOL
I'll bet she's probly seen those snow sculptures up close though as that's were my nephew attends college.
We've had temps in the 30's here this weekend and it feels so good!Just a couple of tiny flurries yesterday but mostly sunny How was the weather in your neck of the woods?LOL, if anyone else reads this question they'll probly be confused as we are only a couple of counties away but it can be a huge difference in weather just between here and Marquette because of the lake.
