Christmas - New Orleans Style

Received this press release and thought it would be good to share

EXPERIENCE CHRISTMAS NEW ORLEANS STYLE!

August 8, 2002 - New Orleans, LA - Visitors and locals alike will rediscover why there's no place like New Orleans for the holidays during Christmas New Orleans Style, a celebration of uniquely New Orleans holiday activities taking place throughout December.

Over 100 festivities are planned during the month-long event, including "Caroling in Jackson Square" by candlelight, nightly motorcoach excursions through the grand lighted display of "Celebration in the Oaks," levee bonfires, children's teas and craft workshops, caroling cruises on the Steamboat Natchez, theatrical and musical performances, special tours of private residences and antebellum homes dressed in holiday trim. Celtic Christmas customs, Chanukah observances and various ethnic holiday offerings will also be presented, all representing the cultural diversity that adds spice to the gumbo of New Orleans' ancestral heritage.

Every day, from December 1-23 and 26-29, chefs from Broussard's, Gabrielle Restaurant, Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, Louis XVI Restaurant Francais and other New Orleans dining establishments will offer free cooking demonstrations at 3 p.m. in Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carré. Free nightly concerts in the French Quarter's St. Louis Cathedral will feature holiday performances by renowned local gospel and secular artists.

The Reveillon, an adaptation of an old Creole holiday dining custom, will be featured at several of the city's best restaurants, each offering prix fixe menus with a minimum of four courses, generally ranging in price from under $20 to $75. On Christmas Day, two fabulous holiday jazz concerts at Le Petit Theatre are guaranteed to make your season swing. And, as always, hotels throughout the city offer very attractive "Papa Noel" rates to visitors as their gift of the season.
