Linnea - I think it is the change of the seasons, as I have felt the same way for the last couple of weeks. Mobic hasn't kicked in, yet, so I have that on top of the seasonal change. Waaaaaaa! I want my Mommy!

Sorry. Just had to whine for a minute!

Pag36 - reading your post reminded me of my Mama. She lost all her teeth when she was only 45 because she had many infections and they thought at that time it was causing or contributing to her rheumatoid arthritis. They never could get dentures to "fit" right because of the RA - she developed the RA nodules all along her gums where the dentures would press - so she never wore them. She was resigning herself to eating what she called "slops" for the rest of her life, when I had DS#1. By the time he was 8 months old, he was sitting in his high chair eating a grilled cheese sandwich - just gumming it to death. She decided if he could do that, she could, too! So she stopped eating "slops" and started eating sandwiches! They had to be made with soft cheeses and soft meats (like deviled ham), but she could handle them. She said she was grateful to DS#1 for the rest of her life! What a woman! She died at the ripe old age of 59 from RA complications. In 14 years she had over 30 major orthopedic surgeries to deal with joint destruction - including two cervical (neck) fusions and 4 surgeries on her thumbs. I still miss her 27 years later.

How is your water heater? has the guy come out yet?

Joyce and Mouse - so many questions, so few characters left...!

Mouse, All monks and priests are addressed as "Father." Deacons are addressed as "Father Deacon," except a monk who is a deacon is just addressed as "Father." Our website does not have any music, but some Russian Orthodox music can be heard at:
http://en.liturgy.ru/zvuk/zvuk.php
Some of that is male-only, but a good bit is by mixed choirs. The language is Slavonic, and I often play it while saying my prayers as it doesn't distract me - I'm not trying to chant the words because I'm not facile in Slavonic. The "breathlessness" of Russian Orthodox music is one of it's characteristic qualities. It is achieved by everyone breathing at a different place, and coming back into the chanting using a special vocalization technique. I can't describe it well with words, but it is something like quietly starting "mmmmmm" and then changing to the words. But it is extremely smooth - through a lot of practice.

Yes, Mouse, the monks are up every 3 hours night and day. It is something they gradually work up to - not something you just jump into. Those who have reached a certain spiritual level do not "sleep" in bed, but instead may doze off and on throughout the day. They stand in prayer for hours, and in a group of people may seem to be dozing, but will suddenly chime into the conversation with an incredible depth of understanding, right on the topic under discussion. But this is NOT for the laity! We have to work up to it with the assistance of a good spiritual counselor.

If my darlin' ol' curmudgeon falls asleep in the Lord before I do, more than likely I will go into a convent - this is a very common thing in Orthodoxy. I will have no debts, and I'll probably be on Medicare plus have a supplemental for healthcare. No need to stay alone in this house. I'll probably sell it and set up an educational trust for the grandkids. But I'll just have to keep at least one of my computers so I can chime in on FC from time to time!

Joyce, Orthodox Priests may come from the married or the unmarried. However, once ordained into the priesthood, they may not "change their status." So if the wife dies, the husband may not remarry. If the man goes into the priesthood unmarried, he may not marry. Same for the Deacons. A married man may not be ordained unless his wife agrees wholeheartedly, because she has responsibilities, also, as the "little mother" for the parish. People go to her for answers if they fear approaching her husband. Although she may refer most of these questions to her husband, many times she is the counselor for women regarding "womanly" problems. (We do not receive Holy Communion during our "monthlies," for instance, and many women do not even enter the Church at that time.) She will end up being de facto in charge of the "Trapeza" (coffee hour) and may have to direct a small choir during week day services. In the absence of a choir director, she ends up being expected to direct choir - may have to go to Choir School to do so! So, any man who thinks he may be called to the Priesthood needs to work all this out with his wife or intended ahead of time. It isn't an easy in the US, because it is so different a mindset from the rest of the people in the country.

Cheerio!

Thanks Elizabeth! Sometimes I feel like whining too! ally has her fall break this Wed, Thur, Fri and I would love to go home to Chattanooga. I have to decide whether I should make the drive or not. I'd love to see my family but I'd love to get some rest too and get a few things done around here.

I am a Lutheran but I attend and am a member of an Episcopal Church. We have Priests and Bishops. We have all sorts of different levels of priests which I haven't all figured out yet. I love the ceremonial type service. My dh has been away from church for 20+ years. He got disenchanted by hypocrisy and churches that were so judgemental. He is now going with us. He has been going off and on for a year but a little over a month ago he has been going regulary. He wouldn't take communion, but two weeks ago I got a surprise when he got up to go to the alter for communion! I teach pre-school thru 1st grade Sunday school.

Why is it that during " Monthlies" you don't take communion?
Thanks for all the info.

Patti, I love Ginger snaps and I am a dunker too! Glad you got a nap- also one of my favorite things. It was sweet what you said about your grandmother. My g'mpther left this life two yrs ago this December. WE had such a bond. We always were so close. We still are bonded. She loved flowers so much. When I am in my garden I feel very close to her. I have her rose bushes and they are beautiful. They bloom so much.

Mouse, I love those fall festivals. I am glad y'all had fun. We won our game by quite a bit. We got to play the second and third string, which was good. My sister , her dh and her two kids came on Thurs. and went to our B team game on Thurs and to the game on Friday. Her almost two year old and her four year did great. The little Boy, Ben loves football and thinks my dh is big stuff cause he is a coach! Steve let hime go on the sidelines with him during some of the B team game and I got pics- it was cute. All the boys went with the football team to see the GA Southern game in Statesboro. Ally went also. My sis, her 2 yr old, Sydney and I went out to lunch, went to the park, let her play for awhile, then walked on the walking track. We found a neat consignment store and she got some great clothes for Syd. I got a vintage Christmas tablecloth for $2 and I was happy. I collect the colorful vintage tablecloths.
I hate the no child thing also. Poloticians who know nothing about teaching designed it. They teach the test and are forced to cover so much material it takes the fun completly out of learning. Also the info doesn't have time to go into long term memory before they are on to something else. Therfore, they actually learn less. Don't ya'll just love it when I get on my soapbox

Joyce, I think I'll have to borrow E if he keeps this up!!! That is great he got the bulbs. They will comeup most likely- mine usuallu always do I have no luck with tulips. My squirrels eat the bulbs. When we get together I will give you some of my g'mother's iris bulbs.

Kim, Glad you are back!

Martie.I love those kind of fairs. I am jealous you got to go! ARe the girls better/ I hope so.

I better get going. The girls I am babysitting gets dropped off at 12 .

I ushered for the Curious George performance. It went well and I enjoyed it. I got to see lots of kids and teachers I knew. I had called the Council for ARTS awhile back and put my name on the volunteer list. also, one of my friends was coordinating this event also. So she called me and asked. Mouse, I would look up Arts or Theater in your area if you want to volunteer. You get to see free plays and meet nice people. When I get better I want to get involved doing community theater again.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!!! Take care.

Happy Birthday wishes Patti!! And belated wishes to Elizabeth!

Glad to see everyone on the boards!

I think we have a buyer for our house! Yeah! Johnny's Uncle wants to come up the end of the month and give us a security/good faith deposit to hold the house for him til the end of the year!

Yes Joyce we are building a new house and Johnny and I are helping with a lot of it to keep the costs down. His Uncle is the contractor and his crew is doing most of the work but we have been helping quite a lot. It is going to be such a big difference in what we have now! the little house we live in now is 2 bedroom (tiny closets), 1 bath (shower only no tub), living room and kitchen less than 1000 sq ft total living space. The new house is 3 bedroom, 2 bath (1 w/ jacuzzi tub), large closets (including walk-in closet in master suite), large living room, kitchen, seperate dining room, Utility room, and large loft room over the kitchen (looking down over the living room and dining rooms) 1600+ sq ft total living space. And we will have a 2 car garage where we don't even have a drive way now!!!
Needless to say I am very excited about the new house!!!But very patient!

Well gotta run! Take care everyone!

Hello one and all!

Things have been very busy around here. Happy Belated Birthday Patti & Elizabeth. Sorry I missed your big days.

Joyce said "we had leftover pinto beans w/sausage, boiled potatoes, steamed cabbage, and cornbread for a late lunch/early dinner" This sounds very Yummy!

Martie, the bunny is very cute. We had bunnies when I was a kid. I enjoyed them. They loved to be held and petted.

Mouse, I agree with Joyce and Elizabeth. Bi Polar is not something that you can control. It does not mean that you are weak if you have to take meds. We miss your posts when you aren't posting. Please get to feeling better.

OOOHHH! I have forgot everything else that I wanted to say. Drats!!

Navy it is so good to see you. You are very much missed when you aren't posting also. What did ya'll ever do about the vehicles? How is the practice going for the musical or was it a play?

Elizabeth thanks for the answers to my questions. I listened to several of the songs this evening and it is some beautiful music. On the Lord's prayer song I am truly amazed at how high that lady can hit the notes. Thank you for posting the site.

kim you are really going uptown with your new house. I know you will love it, probably the addition of another bath the most and I bet you don't come out of that tub for the first month after ya'll move in. Is the jacuzzi tub big enough for you and Johnny both? Oh never mind this is a family channel.

linnea if ya do decide to go to Chattanooga hollar at me, I'm only about 45 min. away and I will meet you for coffee and pie somewhere or lunch or something. It is interesting learning about everyones religion. I think that is great that Steve is going with you and Ally. I've never had a gingersnap, what do they taste like? With our no child left behind (don't know if it is because our middle school is on the failing list or what) but they mostly go over the same stuff over and over again which is just stuff for the CRCT test so they can become a passing school again. But once Lacy gets it she is bored to have to do it over and over and she passed everything on the CRCT last year. Congrats to Steve's team again. I bet your little nephew did look mighty cute standing on the sidelines with the big boys. Thanks for the info on the ushering, I think we do have one small theater group in Calhoun.

Doris how is life in Savannah? Can ya'll get fresh seafood over there or you have to drive down closer to FL for that? I have been wanting some really good fish and seafood for months now. It is almost worth the drive to go pick some up and might as well eat some while I'm there also.

Joyce how was work? Hopefully it went well. I know you enjoyed spending time with Sam last weekend. Did the girl next door finish her hair? Is E. still cooking and cleaning? You are lucky!!! Jerry will help but doesn't usually take it upon himself to do the cooking or cleaning unless he knows I don't feel good or I ask him to help.

Everyone sleep good and have a wonderful tomorrow.

Oh yea forgot, when I took Michael to the doc. today I got my iron level tested again while I was there. It was a 13 and he said he wants me to continue taking the iron pills 3 X a day plus come in next Mon. to run some test, don't have any idea what kind. I told him good cause my hair is falling out also and I want to figure out why before I go bald. They checked Michael's iron also and his was an 18 which they said was good. What are your iron levels suppose to be Elizabeth? Is a 13 not good? With Michael they decided it was his asthma and allergies but did a strept test anyway cause his throat was real red looking. I found out Friday at school he was helping one of the teachers by cleaning out the computers in her class and there was lots of dust. Didn't know that until he told the doctor that it was after that when he started feeling so bad and it just went downhill from there. So since he is trying to get an apprenticeship at school working on the computers (he'll get paid to do it) I went out and bought him some of those face masks today.

Good night for real this time.

Mouse - Measuring iron levels is by two tests, hemoglobin and hematocrit. Hemoglobin measures the concentration of hemoglobin in the cells, hematocrit measures the percentage of red blood cells. Normal ranges:
Hemoglobin - females 12 - 14
- - - - - - - - - - males 13 - 18
Hematocrit - females 38 - 42
- - - - - - - - - males 40 - 48

So you are both fine in terms of iron! Good for you!

About your hair, there can be many reasons for losing hair. One is just the hair growth cycle. Another can be lack of one or more of the micro nutrients. Be sure you are taking a good multivitamin in addition to your other meds! Have your hair checked out by a *good* hairdresser as well as your doc - maybe a referral to a dermatologist? Hairdresser may well have the answers, as docs don't seem to focus on stuff like that! I dunno why!

Navy - great to hear from you again! We've missed you!

Kimmyo - the house sounds wonderful! Hope y'all can get into it soon!!

Joyce - does E want to drive to Larryville and "do" my yard??!!?? I really need something other than grass mowing done! Maybe E could start his own gardening business! Going around and realizing the dreams people have for their yards, but can't "do" themselves! There's a good living there, if he can do it physically!

Linnea - whenever you need to whine, feel free! This is an "equal whine" thread!! Sometimes we just need to let off some steam or whine before we can get on with our day and be at least semi-productive!

Today I have to drop off old and pick up new cases at one contractor's office. On the way home, I may stop at Publix and get some ground beef, pork and veal so I can make some meatloaf for DH. He's been groaning that he wants some for a couple of weeks, now, and I was a "bad wife" and just gave him sandwiches for supper last night! Bad, bad, bad! Shame, shame, shame!

6 yo DGS # 9 was rushed in to my house yesterday (by 10 yo DGS #7) with a skint up face from falling off his bike. He's learning impaired from a cerebral hemorrhage when he was a baby (26 weeks gestation at birth, 2# 2oz) (normal gestation is 38-40 wks), and he isn't real coordinated. So I washed him off and gave him some ice cubes to suck on (had a deep cut inside his lip. When his mom got home from the grocery store, she took him in for some stitches. I dunno - it didn't look that bad to me - and it was mucus membrane, not skin, but I guess a few stitches won't hurt. DS was home, but they ran to my house! Guess DGS #7 remembered I was a nurse! Guess it's good to be next door!

Well, gotta get going on the daily tasks, much as I'd prefer to stay here and "chat" on the forums!

Cheerio!

Ally is out of school today thru Fri. I am still in my jammies and it is wonderful! PTO gave an appreciation dinner for the teachers last night so I was busy almost all day with that. It went well- glad it is over!

I saw this and thought of "us"

Georgia Girls

Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had
given their new wives duties.

The first man had married a woman from Tennessee, and bragged
that he had told his wife she was going to do all the dishes and
house cleaning that needed done at their house. He said that it took a couple days but on the third day he came home to a clean house and the dishes were all washed and put away.

The second man had married a woman from Florida. He bragged thathe had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. He told them that the first day he didn't see any results, but the next day it was better. By the third day, his house was clean, the dishes were done, and he had a huge dinner on the table.

The third man had married a Georgia girl. He boasted that he
told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes
washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but by the third day most of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye. Enough to fix himself a bite to eat, load the dishwasher, and telephone a landscaper.

Got to love them Georgia girls!!!

Have a great day!

That sounds good linnea. Is Steve going to go also? Jerry can if we go over the weekend, well probably he can anytime (he will just have to take a vacation day). Michael and Christy want to go also, she is old enough to vote this year but Michael will miss it by one month. You and Steve decide when is good for ya'll and then I will contact the people and let them know we are coming. Enjoy you next few days off and GET SOME REST. Thanks for the joke.

Thanks for the iron info Elizabeth. Hope your DGS is feeling better.

Hope everyone else is having a nice day. It is still wet and drizzling up here.
