Shanti, what sort of books does Elizabeth George write? I've read a Bible study or two by someone with that name but not at all sure it's the same person. Also, I can't believe you didn't mention that T. was in the hospital! Gail told me at the meeting while ago. Let me know if you hear any news! She was really on my mind yesterday and all weekend but I never did phone her.
Have all of you had a bunch of wind today? I went to TOPS and had to sit in the truck for a few minutes because the wind was blowing so hard! And normally 55 degrees feels nice but today it feels down right cold almost!
Better run. I have kids needing the computer to get their school work done for the day.

Hey Pag good seeing you on the porch again. That's a lot of work you and the girls are doing. Jerry and I are planning on putting a new floor down in the kitchen this summer and ripping the carpet up in my office and putting flooring down. We're going to move my office to another room and turn this one into a dining room like it was meant to be in the beginning. Realized Sat. when we ate at a friends that all 3 of mine need a refresher course in table manners. We've been eating in front of the TV to long and they have forgotten how to eat at a table properly.
I love the moon tonight but when it is so bright like this it always makes my dogs go crazy. I think they bark at every little thing they see and up here there are lots of things to bark at in the night. When it is really dark they just go in their dog houses and go to sleep.
I had a meeting with Lacy's teachers today. They just drive me crazy. They sit there and say how smart Lacy is and that she is doing really well and doesn't need to be put in smaller classes yet her grades don't show that at all. I think that is why they have you meet with the whole team of 5 teachers and education director at the same time so it is all of them against you. At least that is how it feels. We are suppose to meet again in 2 weeks and make a final decision about any recommendations for smaller classes to help with her attention and completing work. I am more serious than ever about homeschooling her next year and the rest of middle school. I just don't like the middle school up here at all. The high school, I have no complaints about. The middle school though seems really good at telling you one thing and then not doing it or telling you your kid is doing fine when they are actually on the verge of failing. Lacy normally makes A's and B's, so I don't consider almost failing doing fine ok I'm done ranting.
linnea school is going good, last classes are March 19, then I have a couple of weeks off before spring classes start up. Maybe we can get together then. Are you still working at the gym?
martie the nickle a book worked with the boys but didn't work as well with Lacy and she still only goes through spells of wanting to read for pleasure. Nothing like the boys as far as loving to read.
So it really depends on the kid I guess. If Skylar is loving to spell I bet the reading won't be far behind. If you ever find the recipe for the muffins please pass it on.
Oh yea, heard from rose. Her and Tony are doing well but she said she just doesn't have time to get on here anymore and she has trouble keeping up. To tell you all hi.

Hi Gang!
It looks like ya'll have been busy! I cannot believe the last time I posted was when it snowed!
Things have been busy, between work, going back and forth to Hendersonville to help my parents with their move and the entire family - including the cat - coming down with nasty deep chested colds. We were all sick at once - so you can only believe how ugly it was. If it weren't for canned soup and crackers we would have starved. LOL I think I'm finding the kitchen and the rest of the house is somewhere under the mess and dust.
I'm gonna reintroduce myself to all of you new porch members. You guys that have been around a while can ignore this paragraph.
I'm Sharon, married to Nestor for 23 years, mom to Justin who is almost 22 and we have an ancient 16 year old marmalade cat named Cali. We are originally from Maryland, moved to SW FLA and lived there for 16 years. We came through Cleveland visiting friends and fell in love with the place. In less than a year we packed up, sold the house quit our jobs and moved here. I can't hardly believe we are almost at our 1 year mark. I work for a law firm out of Atlanta, and Nestor owns his own painting business.
I think that's all for now.
I gotta get back to the work grind. Don't I sound enthusiastic?
Be Good!
Sharon

Mouse, stick to your guns with that school. I know how you feel, I have definately been there and looks like I am headed that direction again with Kate. Remember, you know your child better than they do and you need to tell them so.
Sharon, WOW! I knew about your move and all, but I had no idea that you up and moved all in a year like! That's amazing!!
Well ladies, I had an old friend track me down last night. I haven't talked to her in probably 5 years. She found my parents' number and called them. They called me with her info and I called her. We talked a couple of hours, and are planning to get together sometime in the future. She's living in SC now, so we are only about 4 hours from each other. I also realized last night that the more things change the more they stay the same!
My poor Keith had a tooth pulled this morning and he is very uncomfortable. It was a tooth that they did a bad root canal on 6 or 7 years ago. Ugh! I'm definatley hating it for him.
Wilson, (the owner of this house) is up on the roof with his son putting plastic over the open spaces where the shingles got blown off from the wind Sunday night. We're supposed to have some rain and snow tonight, so he wanted to be prepared. We're still waiting on the insurance adjustor.
Anyway, ladies, I gotta' skidaddle, got things to do.
Ciao'!

Shanti, hope Grey is better today than yesterday. Sorry I didn't get a chance to do more than yell bye when you picked up Aleck. That sink had something nasty in it and I was elbow deep trying to figure out what.
Mouse, when you hear from Rose again, let her know we REALLY miss her! If you need homeschooling info, let me know. I'll send you anything I can. I have several friends that homeschool for middle school and then their kids go back for high school.
OMG! They just said a DOT worker is trapped under a piece of equipment in Henry County at I-75 and Hudson Bridge Road. We just drove past there a little over an hour ago and I didn't even see that they were really working out there! SB lanes are shut down and emegency crews are on the way.
Sharon, which lawfirm are you working for? I can't remember, do you drive into Buckhead or where? That's such a drive for you. Do they let you do a short week or anything? I'm glad you all are starting to pull out of all the sickness.
Stacey, hope Keith is feeling better quickly. I made my dentist pull a tooth several years ago instead of doing a root canal. I've just heard so many people have problems and I hate going anyway so I didn't want to put myself in the place of having to go for more work later. I love the dentist I have now but the previous one I didn't care for much.
That's cool how your friend found you. I have a friend from high school that was my best friend for several years when we lived down the street from one another right after we each were married. They now live at Jackson Lake which isn't that far but she was working and so we had a time figuring out when we could get together. She called last week and we always talk like we've just seen each other. It's fun to have friendships like that.
Well, I guess I should get off here and head out. The girls need tennis balls so they can go practice. Have a wonderful day!

It is cold up here tonight. Has been most of the day. We have had rain off and on today which has probably made it feel even colder.
I can't wait till Joyce gets her computer back from the shop, I really miss her. She couldn't keep it up long enough to load the program Jerry was giving her to get rid of all the pop-ups that kept knocking her off-line.
Thanks Stacey I know what you mean about telling the schools but I am just so bad at confrontations. I mean even armed with the doctors recommendations I back down when they start saying "Lacy doesn't need smaller classes". I know when we meet again in two weeks I'll have her report card by then and I'll get into an arguement with Jerry over something really stupid before I go so that way I will be mad already and then I should be able to stand up to them. If not them I am going to seriously check on both private school and homeschooling.
martie I may be calling you for advice on how to get started. I just can't see going through two more years with this school. I think Lacy just has a really hard time doing 7 hours of school a day and then a couple of hours of homework at night plus she actually gets up at 5:45 for school so she can catch the bus at 6:45 then she doesn't get home in the afternoon until 4:30 then tack 2 hours of homework on top of that and it is just to long a day for a kid with ADHD. In elementary she got out at 2:00 every day and was home by 2:30 which was a much shorter school day for her. That's almost 13 hours a day of school stuff, getting ready, in school and coming home and doing homework. I realize I will have to cut back on my classes some if I decide to homeschool her but it will only be for 2 more years. And I don't have to quit, just cut back to maybe a morning class and an evening class for me.
I will give rose your message. I think we all miss her and those good home cooked meals and listening to her tales of gardening.
Sharon that is cool you work for a lawyer, how do you like it?
Mouse, just stay strong in your convictions. You don't have to be angry or upset with them. In fact, cold logic often works best. Simply state your case, and keep repeating that you know that your child cannot perform to her best ability in a large class setting and you would like for her to be placed in a smaller class. Then refer to the disability act (do your homework here and find out all the rules that pertain to Lacy - remember you told me this) and ask if they understand the implications of their actions regarding your daughter who has a disability covered under this federal act. That's what I call a big gun, use it for her just like you told me to use if for Emma. I have and it works. Keep up the fight. If you choose to homeschool, Martie is definately the expert on that here, but I also did my share and I can give you some tips from the ADHD perspective, too.
I'll call you and we'll chat. It's been way too long!!!!
Until later girls...

We spent the weekend in Mooresville NC. We toured the NASCAR Technical Institute. (Zach goes there in Sept) We looked at apartments and familiarized ourselves with the town. We went to the Racing Hall of Fame and DEI headquarters. We had a good time together as a family with no interference from bosses, friends or other family members. It was just the 4 of us and it was really nice!
