Face Discoloration?

I have pretty bad face dicoloration, AKA melasma, on my jaw bones. Really making me look much older than I am. I have tried prescription prods to no avail. I just bought something that is rice based and its day 3. Has anyone tried anything OTC that works for this condition?

I have it really bad on my arms. I put some body butter on them at night and then in the morning use a facial scrub with salicytic (sp?) acid that is a generic brand at Target and costs less than $3 here. I tried something by Neutorgenia that was supposed to even the skin color but it was expensive and dried my skin out too much. It is slowly clearing up. Also, during the day I use some mineral powder makeup that turned out to be too dark for my face. It evens out the color and I think the zinc in it helps too. A dermatologist I used to type for would tell some of her patients to take zinc internally too but you do have to be careful with taking anything internally due to possible side-effects.

Hey Apricot! I never saw this reply!!

I have a doc appt sometime this month. I am going to talk to her about it. I am sick of it. It makes my face look too "jowly" for lack of a better word.

I'll let you know if she has any pearls of wisdom.

J- I know what you mean Lately I've just been putting lots of Aveeno lotion on my arms before I go to bed and it is slowly clearing up but looks horrible in the meantime, so I try to tone it down with powdered makeup in the daytime. I just ran out of the lotion, so am using aloe vera gel at night now. If nothing else works for you I hope your doctor can help.

This is off topic but I've been reading the fitness thread when my computer will let me scroll through the pages, which it doesn't usually do and most of the time won't let me post either. There aren't many posts here yet, so I'm not having any problems on this thread. Would you mind saying hi to everyone over there and telling them I'm having some computer issues?

Sorry to jump in here have you tried anything like

Vinegar
Onion Juice
Lemon Juice

Dilute vinegar equally with water, and use to clean and rinse your face.
Allow to dry to seal in moisture. It has long been used for a skin softener. Apple cider or other natural vinegars are also recommended.

get onion juice by chopping an onion finely and squeeze the juice through a cheesecloth.
Mix with equal part apple cider vinegar, apply twice daily with a cotton ball and watch for results over the next several weeks.

Alternatively, you can cut a slice of onion, dip it in vinegar, and apply it to the pigmentation.

Apply the juice of a fresh lemon to the pigmentation has a similar effect to the onion remedy – the acidic tendancies can safely peel off the top layer of skin, causing spots to fade.

I agree with you about the onion, it is meant to be really good, but I cannot do with the smell, it seems to take many hand wahes to get rid of the smell jut preparing tea,

Hope it works for you.
