Cracked heels

My heels often crack, but really deep ones. I use a heel file and cracked heel cream and it works to some point...

Does anyone else suffer from this and what do you use to help it heel, is there anything natural you do to help it, please?

Thank you

Vaseline lathered on thickly and put on socks for an overnite treatment. I am always barefoot which is what is bad. Moisturize everyday. Hope this helps ya.

Thanks
Will try try that.
I am always in bare feet too and I live in my scholls which I know isn't good, but I really don't like my feet being closed in.

Madmum, this is a problem I constantly suffer with, especially in warm/hot weather. I love going barefoot, but I wear shoes, or at least flip-flops, all over, even in the house. Moisturize and file your feet regularly. The vaseline-and-socks trick mentioned above is messy, but it will work. If your cracks are deep enough that they're painful, keep them clean and apply antibacterial cream or gel (such as Bacitracin) whenever you can, and especially before bed. The cracks don't just hurt because they're cracks- if you get dirt in there, they'll get infected, and that'll be your double-whammy. I have also used an antibacterial liquid bandage called Nu Skin- it dries shortly after you apply it, so you don't have to use bandages. If Nu Skin isn't sold in the UK, ask your pharmacist for a liquid antibacterial bandage alternative that dancers or gymnasts might use.

Good luck!!

I've learned to live with it, but when it really gets bad, especially in the winter months is my worse time for it, I will put Moisturize on thick, not vaseline, but a hand creme, and then put on a pair of clean socks.. my feet soaks it up as I have very dry skin and at times will wear those socks even the next day.. then by night take them off..
with each day wearing clean socks are important..as someone else mention you do not want to get dirt inside them.

Also if you have a foot spa, soak them in that if you do not, soak them in the tub or a pan of some kind.. dry them off extremely good, and put the Moisturize on them.

When I take my showers/bath I have a scub I use to put on the heels, which will help remove the scaly skin as when you have scaly skin it more easier for them to peel and crack.

hope this helps..

my dad's foot doctor told him to use crisco shortening and a clean pair of white socks over that.

I use a thick foot cream and put on clean socks. Sometimes do this twice a day.

I do the same thing when my hands are real dry. Good thick moisturizer and then put a clean pair of dh's white tube socks on.

I sleep like that. I guess it probably looks really funny. But it works.

OMGosh esp during extreme seasons (summer & Winter)... I do these things to help reduce the amount of foot cracking I endure during these times.
1. Wash my feet more with a mild soap (Ivory, non/low scented gels, etc) in warm water (not cold and not hot) - does not have to be in the tub/shower either.
2. Pat dry bottoms, rub sides.
3. Apply hydrating lotion, and "massage" in
4. dress feet in breathable cotton socks before donning shoes / flip flops only good for short walkercise (so George Bush of me!)
5. most importantly I drink more WATER... your feet cracking is a sign of not enough fluids, esp water. I use the hydrated lotion so that my feet immediately have moisture to absorb while I get around to the water drinking portion of my day.
