My son has just achieved the rank of Eagle Scout! Now we have a ceremony and party to plan. I'd love to hear ideas from other parents/scout leaders who have done this.
Congratulations to your ds for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. You and your family must be very proud. This is a wonderful achievement for a young man. .........We had our sons Eagle Scout Court of Honor at a restaurant and it was narrated by the Order of the Arrow. It was an affair that will always be remembered by family and friends.

Thanks, Caroline. We intend to hold the Court of Honor and party at our church's parish center. The last Scout to make Eagle had his there and the space was perfect. Plus, the parish is the sponsoring organization.
I don't have any problems catering a party, and I know that to some degree the Scout troop will take care of the ceremony. But beyond that I am clueless! This is not just a "family" event--there are Scout people, church people and others who helped with the project to be included.
Oh! Yes this is not just a famiy event. I remember all the invitations we sent! This was many years ago. The President was even invited. Of course he didn't come but he got an invite and did send a special letter. But this President may come to your sons after all he was in N.J. a while ago....lol.....It's is very hectic to plan but well worth it.

Barb,
Congrats! It is a special day for both your son and his parents. My oldest son had his ceremony with the Boy Scout Troop and the Boy Scout Venture Crew Troop, he was in. The Crew honored him with a Native American Grand entry dressed in their regalia. Also one of the Native American's in the group, Gave him a Feather from the Crew and one of the other Drummers who does ceremonies for the BSA Council here told a story. The BSA Troop Scout Master presented his Eagle pin during the Court of Honor ceremony with the parents. The troop has a catered dinner when there is an Eagle Ceremony. Where the boy's who are recieving their Eagle get to pick the menu.
The family's part was providing the desert part of the dinner after the ceremony. We bought 2 sheet cakes - one had an Eagle on the top and the other one had the Boy Scout Emblem on the top. Our son also gave out some small appreciation gifts to those who helped him through out the years to achieve his Eagle Rank. This was done towards the end of the ceremony. Before the cake, nuts, mints and punch.
Almost forgot the catered dinner was paid for by those eating and the family paid for any extra guests they invited if needed.
Hope this helps you with some ideas.
Congrats Barb to you and your son. My sons goal is Eagle. Right now he is 2nd year Webelos. This is a good thread. It will give me some ideas to do when he reaches that far.
Thank you for the congrats. We are very proud of him.
Kay, keep encouraging your DS to stick with it. By the time he is "Eagle Scout age" it is no longer popular for boys to be Scouts. (Although our troop has recently picked up quite a few 8th-grade boys. Really unusual, but no one's complaining. They're enthusiastic and they're telling their friends! Our troop has more than doubled in size in the past year.)
Gradulations to your son on getting Eagle. My oldest got his last year. My younger son starting his Eagle Project. It hard work but Scouting is worth it. I have 12 more years of Scouting I hope to have 2 Eagles, 1 Gold Star and more.
