I teach crafts to kids (3rd grade through 8th grade) at a Boys and Girls Club. A very generous person just brought me about 300 promotional cd's. I refuse to throw them away!!!!
Desperatly need craft ideas for all these cd's
To make both it's really the same idea/ way to make them
materials needed:
cd's 2-5 for chimes 2-8 for catchers
small drill bit
fishing line
metal pipe your choice of metal I like copper about 6" in lenght each ( for chimes)
snips/xacto knifes
glue
decorations ( optional)
Directions:
Glue 2 cd's together shiny side out
drill small holes around center to suspend chimes from about 3 still on the shiny part. another 3 on the clear part (optional)
around the outer edge drill 2 holes for each pipe ( ie: 6 pipes 12 holes)
drill holes in the tops of your pipe to feed your fishing line
Take 1 long lenght of line and 'sew' through the holes to the pipes to the matching holes in the outer edge of the cd's. Remember to have your pipes hanging at different legnths.
with the inner circle ( clear part) you cut designs in your remaining cd's ( suns, moons, rainbows, fish whatever you like)
take more line and hang these at various lenghts from the center.
the 3 left over holes is what you will 'sew' more line through to be able to hang it. Or if you are cofident with your knot tying do each hole seperate with a knot on the underside.
You can decorate the top with flowers, small ornaments what ever you feel will finish the project for you if needed.
Sun Catchers
you can do like a mobile suncatcher by replacing the pipes with more cut designs. Instead of sewing these you would do a line for each and top knot them. Again at staggering legnths.
Or cut a design drill one small hole at the top of it and hang in your windows.
The stained glass window paint gives a interesting effect to the cd's if you would like to add some color.
If there are any that would like some rejected CDR's - I do have lots of them to recycle.....
Can't image paying all the postage to everyone, but I would be glad to send some to a worthy cause...
Email me privately if you are interested -- or if the moderator knows who could take them and distribute them better I would gladly make a box of 500 or so available to that source free.
I am so excited to see this! I am a Brownie Leader who was supposed to come up with an idea for making a chime. I have been trying to think of different options but my search is over. This is definitely the idea that I am going to use. Thanks! :D
Hi...
I will be glad to donate some to your brownie troop.... so if you need CDR's let me know.... and how many you could use...you can send me a personal message, so that no one else can see your info if you'd like --
They would come from company I work for....and I will give you that info in advance too so you know...
Thanks for the offer but my hubbie works in computer area so we actually have quite a few taking up room in our basement. Looks like I'm actually going to get rid of something from it rather than adding to it.
I hope you can find someone who can use them. Thanks again!
This time, the theme is going to be autumn/Halloween so your stories need to use smilies to express as many words as possible and your story should be focused on anything that has to do with autumn or Halloween.
Members will be allowed to submit one story pertaining to a Halloween story and one story pertaining to an autumn story. Please click here to enter!
