I make large amounts of homemade soap for our business and one of my key ingredients is vegetable shortening (soy and cottonseed oils). I was throwing the containers away (about 15 a month) till my little 10 yo friend Maddy who was over the other day learning how to make homemade soap with me frowned and said “Anna, why are you throwing those away?” you could recycle them.
So I got to thinking of what could I do with them and here is what I came up with.
Storage container for hair curlers, bobby pins, hair accessories
Kitchen storage containers for things like pasta, flour, sugar, dry dog food, soup that could be frozen after cooling, cooked hamburger that has been cooled down could be put in there for freezing, stacks of small pancakes cooked and frozen, cookies, etc.
Decorate the container, spray paint the lid and use to give gifts of cookies or candies at the holidays.
Punch holes in the bottom and use for either seed starters or to plant small flowers in. You could jazz it up a bit by spray painting or save and let the kids paint decorations on it for a rainy day project.
Decoupage them with cut up magazine photos or stickers, wrapping paper or cloth cut to size and use for gift giving for small things like a paper back book or cookies/candies.
Store extra socks in them, panty hose, hair bows.
Store spools of craft ribbon
Store cotton crochet yarn in them
Use them to grow herbs in the house during the winter, use the top lid for the bottom to catch excess water.
Any other ideas?
Anna

Save the lint from your clothes dryer to use when camping/ fire pit to start your fire. .....Use to save your clothes pins in. ....... Store fishing bait........Seal and use as a time capsule LOL ....Us as an ice bucket when camping..Or use as a garbage container when cleaning fish or on a picnic..Use to store grease for frying....That's all I can think of right now.
