Lightbulb RE:Butterflies from stockings

Hi everyone

I found a site that might be helpful and the Link is:

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/l...101320011.html

Though the subject is "Nylon stocking flowers"...there was some info on making the butterflies.

I am just as excited about making one of these as everyone else....so hopefully if I look hard enough...we shall strike oil!!

Happy Crafting!
Cindy

Thanks mmstars9 that link was just what we all needed. Instead of using coat hangers use wire to make your wings with and that way you can make them the size you want your project to be.

I can hardly wait to try them with my grandaughters.

Pantyhose butterflies

Would love the directions as well. Just redid the daughters room in butterflies complete with netting baluster canopy. Would love BIG butterflies to decorate it! Thanks in advance!

butterflys

I have never done these but I did have a few I got at the dollar store....
I think you could take a med gauge wire and bend two wings out of it, one for each side.....the body is made of rolling the stockings up and tiying them w/ white string, thin but not thread. Cover the wings w/ the stockings and secure by tying w/ string again and tie the wings to the body. play w/ it till you get the look you desire.....I think it would be easy to dye the stockings the colors you wish...I would make a dilute dye from the liquid rit....use a paint brush to color them or use poster paint (this may not be water proof. You could even make dragonflies. you can hang them from fishing line or fix them to a small stake, the ones I had a small 1/4" piece of bamboo. so one pirce of bamboo could make a lot of stakes. or use flower stakes like come w/ hyachinths.
Good Luck, let me know if they come out good.
