Yep, Ive heard of them too. My Mom and/or brother used to make them for Christmas years ago. My brother and his family has lived in Ohio for years. They just moved from Canton to the Canal Fulton area.

Breadsticks

2 cups warm water
5 T white sugar or honey
1 1/2 tablespoons yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup oil
5-6 cups flour

1/4 cup cornmeal
2 Tablespoons of olive oil
Parmesan cheese, Rosemary, salt or what ever you would like to put on top of the breadsticks. A mixture of Parmesan and an allpurpose seasoning salt works wonderfully.

In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water: add yeast.

Mix in salt and oil. Work in the flour until dough no longer looks wet.
Knead on a floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl,
turning to coat dough with oil. Cover and allow to rise until doubles, about
1 hour.

Punch dough down. Knead again and divide in half. Roll each half into a circle about a quarter inch thick. You can form the bread sticks in one of two ways, you can place the circle of dough on a cookie sheet that has been prepared with cornmeal, and then cut them lengthwise, leave in place, and let rise for 20 minutes. Brush with olive oil, and sprinkle with your flavorings.
To make them into sticks, cut the circles, into strips, and twist the strips, placing them on the cookie sheet, prepared with corn meal. Let rise for 20 minutes, and brush with oil and sprinkle with flavorings.
Bake for 20 minutes, at 350 or until golden brown.

Hamburger & Hot Dog buns

2 cups warm water
5 T white sugar or honey
1 1/2 tablespoons yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup oil
5-6 cups flour

One Egg white
1 tablespoon water
sesame seeds, or dried onions (for hamburger buns)

cornmeal to sprinkle on the baking sheets

In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water: add yeast.

Mix in salt and oil. Work in the flour until dough no longer looks wet.
Knead on a floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl,
turning to coat dough with oil. Cover and allow to rise until doubles, about
1 hour.

Punch dough down. Knead again.
For Hamburger Buns divide into 12 pieces, flatten and stretch each piece into a circle about 3 to 4 inches in diameter and place on a cookie sheet that has cornmeal sprinkled on it. You can also divide into 18 pieces, if you prefer a smaller bun. Allow to rise for about 40 minutes, brush with the egg and water mixture, and sprinkle with sesame seeds, or dried onions. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown in a 350 oven.
For Hot Dog Buns divide into 18 pieces, roll between your hands until you have a 6 inch rope, place on a sheet with cornmeal sprinkled on it. These should be placed fairly close together, so they will rise more up than out. Let the buns rise for 30 minutes or until a nice hotdog bun shape. Brush with the egg and water mixture and bake in a 350 oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

BBQ Cups

Like miniature pizzas, these barbecue cups are a definite kid's favorite. Made with refrigerator biscuits and bottled barbecue sauce, they're also easy to make!

* * *

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef, browned and drained
1/2 c. barbecue sauce
1 T. minced onion, optional
1 T. brown sugar
1 can refrigerator biscuits
3/4 c. grated Cheddar cheese

Directions:
Add barbecue sauce, onions and brown sugar to the browned and drained ground beef.
Press biscuits into greased muffin pan to form cups. Spoon beef mixture into the cups and top with grated cheese.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Variations: You can also substitute the following

instead of BBQ sauce ~ pizza sauce or taco seasoning (omit brn sugar)
instead of cheddar cheese ~ mozzarella or taco cheese

I make these all the time, using the generic brand biscuits that come 4 tube in a pkg for around $1.20

After cooking, I let them cool, freeze on cookie sheet then pop in ziploc baggies. Great snack for after school or for a quick dinner with mac/cheese and grapes.

My boys have even taken these to school for lunch

Bubble Up Pizza

Bubble Up Pizza

Made with refrigerator biscuits, this pizza is really delicious and versatile, as well as inexpensive!

* * *

Ingredients:

- 3 pkgs. refrigerator biscuits (usually 3/$1)
- 1 can or jar of spaghetti sauce (never more than 99 cents)
- Shredded cheese (preferably mozzarella)
- Pizza toppings: Usually what I already have in the pantry and vegetable bin.

Directions:

Quarter biscuits into a 9x13 baking dish, add sauce, stir to coat, and spread evenly in bottom of pan. Top with cheese, then toppings, (I usually stick to 3 toppings at a time).

Bake at 375 degrees for about 35-40 min. Be sure to check middle to make sure all the dough is cooked through.
