My oldest son is 16, he makes grill cheese all the time. It's his favorite. All the kids know how to make Ramen, and they know how to heat up Spaghettios etc. He also makes tacos, I taught him how to mix the ingredients etc (we use our own, not the envelope mix).

My 14 yo daughter makes tuna salad sandwiches. She will also put together a salad.

I think they are capable of much more, i just have always been the cook and never really thought about it before :-/

I hope this thread is not tooooooo forgotten because I would like to know from Lifestar what are the amounts (or even approximated amounts) of the spices, breadcrumbs & romano cheese you use in your recipe for meatloaf in the microwave. It sounds yummy. My dh loves meatloaf, but it is always such a long cooking meal & I'm not that good at planning ahead. Thanks.

My son is 9 years old and he has been helping me in the kitchen for several years. He loves to do it! He makes mini-pizzas with canned biscuits, canned pizza (or I usually just buy one of the cheaper cans of spaghetti sauce, shredded cheese and whatever toppings he wants, leftover chicken, hamburger etc.... Lots of fun. Then just pop them in the oven till browned. Yummy. We also make doughnuts our of canned biscuits, we cut the centers out of them with a 2-liter soda pop lid (but we fry those too). Now I do the hot part, frying them in hot cooking grease. My son LOVES to make dirt cake and some of the fun desserts that are on Food networks website. This can also teach them valuable math & life skills.

That's excellent that he loves to cook! Have you checked out the fun kids' recipes here at FC?

Lifestar is still with us at FC. I'll shoot her a PM with this thread link so that she can take a look at your question.

Hi MKS,

Tami forwarded your question to me.. I will have to get back to you later this week. My DD was asking to make meatloaf, so when we make it, I'll pay attention to the ammounts, and let you know. I am absolutely a "visual" , intuitive cook. But if I pay attention, I can estimate how much I use.
