Any good tried and true recipes for short ribs?

I've never tried cooking short ribs but they are really popular around here.

I'd love some tried and true recipes for them. Stove, grill, crock pot...it doesn't matter.

Here is a simple one that is good.

Short Ribs Makes 8 servings

8 pieces of short ribs
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
2 tbsp olive oil
8 small potatoes
8 carrots
8 onions
2 tbsp flour

Season the meat with salt and pepper and brown them in hot oil on all sides. Add 2 cups boiling water and cover tightly; simmer 1 hours. (I like to use a cast iron skilet for all this). Add the vegetables and cook another 1 hour or till the beef is tender. Remove the meat and vegetables (keep warm) and mix the flour and some water; stir into the liquid in the skillet and cook till thickened.

I've got a couple more if you want them, one with a raisin sauce and another with parsley dumplings; both good too!

For the other two recipes, could I just send my dh to your house to eat? He just asked me to make dumplings like that for the stew I made yesterday. I do not like those dumplings in any way. Same for raisin sauce. I make that for him for baked ham when I cook it. Thank anyway!

We used to make beef short ribs in the nursing home where I worked and they were so good and if anything is left over they make a great beef stew.

Use as many ribs as you want, mix salt ,pepper and flour . Place the ribs in a plastic bag and coat evenly. Put the ribs in a 13x9 pan and cover with V8 juice place tinfoil over them tightly place in the oven at 325* until they fall of the bones. These are oh so good and very tender.

I don't know what you refer to as 'short' ribs but I cook my ribs in bbq sauce mixed with sweet chilli sauce (to taste) thinned a little with apple juice,
put in a lidded casserole dish or an oven bag for approx 2 hours. They always turn out tender and delicious.

I made beef short ribs for the 1st time on sunday..here's how I made them:

BBQ Beef Short Ribs
3 1/2 pounds beef short ribs (rinsed with cider vinegar & then seasoned)
1 1/2 cups water (just enough to barely cover them)
1 medium onion, sliced
1 tablespoon vinegar (used white)
1 bay leaf
garlic powder, and onion powder, black pepper

In a pot, combine ribs, water, rest of ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour (I just walked away..no peeking) Drain & Place ribs in an ungreased
13x 9 pyrex dish. Pour BBQ sauce over ribs, pour one ladle full of the cooking broth into pan, cover with foil and bake at 325 degrees for 1hour 15 mins or until meat is tender (mine fell off the bones while still in pan)

my husband was asking me when am I making them again while still chewing his first bite

Bilby, here is the how Wikipedia describes what short ribs are:

Short ribs (UK cut: Thin Rib) (Commonly known in UK as 'Jacob's Ladder' ) are a popular cut of beef. Beef short ribs are larger and usually more tender and meatier than their pork counterpart, pork spare ribs. Short ribs are cut from the rib and plate primals and a small corner of the square-cut chuck.
A full slab of short ribs is typically about 10 inches square, ranges from 3-5 inches thick, and contains three or four ribs, intercostal muscles and tendon, and a layer of boneless meat and fat which is thick on one end of the slab and thins down to almost nothing on the other. There are numerous ways to butcher short ribs. The ribs can be separated and cut into short lengths (typically about 2 inches long), called an "English cut", "flanken cut" across the bones (typically about 1/2 inch thick), or cut into boneless steaks (a style recently introduced in the U.S.A. as a cheaper alternative to rib steak). In Korea, short lengths of rib are often further butchered by butterflying (or using an accordion cut) to unfurl the meat into a long ribbon trailing from the bone, or the meat can be removed from the bone entirely and cut into thin (1/4-1/8 inch thick) slices.
Short ribs may be long-cooked, as in pot-au-feu, a classic of French cuisine, or rapidly seared or grilled, as in Korean cuisine, in which short ribs (called galbi), are marinated and grilled over charcoal (long-cooking thinner, shorter cuts are also a korean favourite). A specific type from Hawaii is known as Maui-style ribs. Other popular preparations are barbecue and braising.
