ISO Cheeseburger Dip recipe that doesn't use Velveeta

I've been searching and searching for a cheeseburger dip recipe that doesn't contain Velveeta.

We had a cheeseburger dip at Red Robin that my DH reallly liked and he swears that they didn't use Velveeta in it. He really dislikes anything with Velveeta in it.

Does anyone have a tried and true recipe like this?

Thanks!
Tami

Could you use any recipe calling for velevta but sub sliced cheese? Or Cheese Whiz if your dh likes that?

He doesn't like Cheez Whiz either.

I've read that you really need to use the Velveeta so that it doesn't get stringy like other cheeses will do.

I think that I might buy some Velveeta and make it when he isn't around and then see if he likes it. ROFL!!

Thanks for your suggestions!!

we get a Rico's brand cheese that is sold in a can. It is the kind that is used for nacho's. I have used that to make dip that calls for Velveeta. I usually add a little water to it even though it doesn't call for it. I hope this will help you.

Tami, I am with your DH. I HATE Velvetta or any fake cheese. They cannot fool me either as I can tell a sauce make with fake versus real. I do like Rotel cheese dip, but for the most part, it has to have REAL cheese.

This is what I do when I want a cheesy sauce. I make a bechamel sauce (white gravy) and put sharp cheddar cheese and a tiny bit of hot sauce in it. Just take some olive oil (or oil of your choice) in a pan, add equal amount of flour and add milk and stir until thickened. I cook on feel so I don't have exact amounts but I am sure if you type bechamel recipe in a search engine, you will find the recipe. It is also in most mac and cheese recipes too so you can get it there, which will include the cheese. Once you learn to make the cheese sauce, which takes better than the Velvetta cheese sauce, you will never want to eat Velvetta again. lol
