My new quilting table

My sweet husband just made me a table to sew on using two by fours and an odd size brand new solid wood door. He varnished and it looks fantastic! Now I have no excuse not to get started on my quilting again. I have two tops started and am itching to get a third one going.

What do you all use to sew on? I'm so excited to have a designated space now! Wish me luck!

Hi Julie,

Your new sewing table sounds great! Right now, I am using the kitchen table, it is a little high for sewing, but it works.

Eventually, I would like an area in my newly finished basement. Spent all the money on the decorating! I have an area set out that has pot lights and a great spot for a design wall. I am really looking forward to not having to put everything away every mealtime!

Hope you turn out lots of wonderful quilts!

Jenna

Your table sounds wonderful. Right now I'm quiting a twin size for my son so the machine is on the dining room table. Otherwise I'm in a closet. Yep, a closet! It was supposed to be a small bathroom but we decided to use it to store junk. I cleaned it out stuck my grandma's treddle (closed) in there put a board across it and put my machine on top. Thats on one wall, the other has boxes stacked and a small ironing board on top. I love it in there. No one else fits, the door closes and I have lots of shelving to store fabric.

I finally have my own sewing room. For one wall, we found a countertop on clearance at the local lumberyard. I have my machine set up next to it, and the ironing board on my right-hand side. Some of my fabric is in the "drawers with wheels" that are sold in office-supply stores. I love it! It's sew nice to have all of my stuff in one room.

Happy Sewing!

I usually sew at my dining room table. My new idea for making quilts is to put our old ping-pong table to use. I need a big area to do the sandwiching of the quilt and I decided to put that table to use. It sounds like it will work, I'll let you know. Wish me luck!

What a Great idea Denise. Hope it works, let me know. I've been wanting to get a ping pong table myself--now this gives me another reason!

Oh what a great idea. I wish I hadn't given mine away.

Does anyone have a good way to keep track of what kind of fabric you have? I guess I'm asking about organization I'm trying to stack by colors but that gets confusing because sometimes the fabric could fit into several catagories.

How do you guys get the fun icons under your names? on the left hand side, like coffee cups?

Hey Diana. Great questions about the fabric. I haven't come up with anything yet. I tried using see through plastic storage boxes but I didn't like that. I want to Really See my fabric, to have it right there ready to touch. Hopefully someone will read this thread and tell us their great idea!

The coffee cup thing under my name is called an Avatar. I think if you go to the edit your profile key you can find it there somewhere. Also I think if you read one of Amanda's posts she has at the bottom of her posts a line that reads Want an Avatar or something like that. They are fun aren't they?

I'm glad you guys like my idea. I come up with a good one every once in a while;-) . I bought an old china cabinet/hutch (whatever you call it) at a second hand store and stack my fabric in there. I organize it by color. Whatever color you see most when you squint your eyes. Some fabrics are hard to place, but most are easy this way. . I'd like one of those avatars too, but I don't have enough posts yet. I wish we could get one another way. I don't want to make posts unless I actually have something to say. At least we can use these cute little smilies...

I like them sorted by color, too. I have the florals together; I find those are the ones that are difficult to categorize.
