Pets & AnimalsWhether you have dogs, cats, ferrets, birds or horses, post with others in this friendly pet forum. Lost a pet? We have a Rainbow Bridge forum too.
About two years ago, a friend of ours that never had a pet had one left at her house when her daughter moved. She cared for the greyhound and became very attached to the dog. Two years ago the dog died. I sent her an email and a card snail mail. She cried buckets of tears. I know that feeling, we've had pets all our lives and it's the same reaction when we lose a pet. A few weeks later, her husband thanked me for sending the card. He said since he never had a pet before he honestly didn't know what to do with her but that seemed to comfort her.
I agree Lila, that's a great idea For many people, especially those without kids at home, their pets become their children. I know that when my mother in law's dog passes on, it'll be a very hard thing for her to go through. The grieving process is just as real with pets as it is for humans.
A card is a wonderful idea. Don't forget about the Rainbow Bridge poem. That's something that all pet owners can appreciate
I forgot to mention that I emailed her the "Rainbow Bridge" poem and also printed it and placed a copy in the card. Since she had her dog cremated she placed the card and the poem with the remains in a memorial. That year her house was being used for a Christmas tour and she had placed the Urn surrounded by poinsettas which was a very nice memorial. Everyone that went on the tour paid their respects.
I found that a sympathy card for pets is just a meaningful as for people.
