If you are planning to use a regular monthly treatment, what you can do (instead of more pesticides) to get rid of them initially is give the kitty a bath in DAWN dishwashing liquid. I've done that with kittens before and it really does work, but only Dawn (the blue one). The grease-cutting agent in the soap takes the protective coating off the flea, and they die (perhaps by drowning?).
