Question 3 YO Party Help Needed

Hello!

My son will be 3 on Halloween. We plan to throw him a party on Saturday, October 26th.

We will probably invite 2 of his 4 friends, then invite my MIL and her husband, and my BIL and his wife...but they all live out of town.

I am in a high risk pregnancy, so want tokeep it simple, yet I don't want to not a big enough deal of it either.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

Jen

As I read my question over, I see I left out some details!

IF I invite all 4 friends...he has two girl friends (both 2), and two male friends (one will be 2 in January, and one will be 5 in November).

I know what themes he likes / wants: Thomas The Tank Engine, Toy Story or Bob the Builder.

I just don't know what snacks to make...
How long to parties last...
Are they too young for games...
Any other suggestions...

(So you don't think I am too lame...we moved here last year, so we only had a family party last year, and we have made friends, but we haven't been to any parties yet...so the only one I have experience with is his 1st birthday!)

Thanks again!

Food: Try making mini PB&J sandwiches (use cookie cutters to shape them out) or cheese.. I do not know what they like.. Chips, Goldfish crackers, pretzels, doughnut holes (munchkins), Finger Foods... they are always good for young children.

Length: Figure on at least 1-1/2 hours. You can always go longer if you feel you can do it.

Games: there are the old favs of pin the tail ... if using a theme, you can customize it. This can be fun to watch kids this young play. When this young if you put some things on the floor in a room, they will do just fine.

Good Luck! Let us know how you make out.

We did Bob the Builder for ds last year--I cut pb&j sandwiches into construction truck shapes, and made cookies and frosted them in the appropiate colors for BTB(didn't bother w/faces--the kids knew who they were lol). I had mini pretzels, cheese cubes, a veggie tray, and sliced fruit, as well as cake and ice cream. For games, we had pin the hat on Bob(copied a pic from coloring book, made hats from construction paper), impersonations(who can spin like Dizzy? Be tall like Lofty?), and "Scoop" the candy(Threw handfuls of candy on the floor and let the kids"scoop" it up.) The whole thing cost us about $40, including the BTB plates and napkins, all the food, decorations, and a few cookie cutters, and the goodie bags(pencils, stickers, etc--all cheap stuff!). We had 6 kids, all under age 5, and they had a good time! Remember--kids aren't as persnickety as adults--they just want to have a good time and eat cake lol!! It's us that worry about having things "just right"

To keep it simple, maybe you could have an evening party and just serve cake and ice cream--everyone will have had dinner by then, and you won't have to deal with a menu! This has served my sil well over the last few years--her two dd's have b-days about a month apart!
