You may have to convince that place to rent the room....Maybe if you tell them its an easy way to make some extra money? No work on their part, that's for sure. You could even invite them to stay there to keep an eye on the goings on if they want. You could tell them that you will do the clean up and set up.
Good luck!

My boys are "all boy". We live in a wooded area and love the woods. For my oldest son, his bday is in the winter so we went to an archery place a town over and they had a bday party package for 12 kids including bow shooting instruction, games with popping balloons, cake and beverage for $99. It was great.
My second sons bday is August so we had a survival party (not like the tv show). We had stations set up to practice BBgun (all instructed by a dad in each station), sling shot, bow and arrow, and because we needed a fourth station ( didn't want more than 3 kids per station at any time) we had boomerang in the front yard for fun. Then we had a bonfire with hotdogs/marshmellows. I set out plastic bugs that glowed in the dark and they had to find them with flashlights. Then they stayed in the tent overnight.
They all had a good time and it was cheap.

Not sure if you had thought of this but sometimes town have a community center you could rent or have a party at. Also sometimes churches rent out there fellowship halls to events and such. I know where we live a lot of people do the bowling thing or have a party at a pizza place or such. Also lots of people have a birthday party at the park pavilions here and the kids play games. One year for my son's birthday he played volleyball and soccer with the friend/friends that came as well as shooting baskets in basketball net. I think parks are a great place to have a party as the kids have plenty of room to do things and lots of activities available to them. My son had a pinata at his last birthday party. I made the pinata and his guests hit it and everyone had fun collecting the hard candy. You can use a stick or such to hit it or even a foam or plastic bat for safety sake. I hope I was able to give you a few ideas. I have done several parties for my kids over the years and it does get harder to do as they get older. My daughter will be 13 this Sept. She will probably have a sleepover with a kid or 2. Hope your party for your son goes well.
If it is hot outside, don't forget the water balloons.
I think it was last year some one did a camp out. What about that? Or was that you? I forget who it was.
I'll think up some fun ideas for that and pm them if you'd like.
