Here is what we do!
I have a cut out of a pig yep, you read right, LOL a pig!
Everytime someone breaks doesn't use their manners, they are given the pig and have to say..."OINK OINK".
The last person with the pig is the one who has the dishes for that night.
It is fun and boy it reinforces good behavior at the table!!

I caught her today scooping rice in her mouth right off the plate. She said it was easy to do it that way...I told her it was my job to teach her manners so that when she's an adult people won't think she's disgusting. I have to admit, I haven't taught her manners but I see I really need to! Thanks for the tip!

Im glad to hear that Im not the only Mom who has a child that likes to eat like that. My son ( hes 5 1/2) has decided to eat like a dog out of a bowl when he eats popcorn. He has also decided that it is hilarious to burp at the table.
He has been getting "talked" to for about a week now and there is actually some improvement. I think he does it more now because he knows it irritates me. I will win the war, LOL!!!
We always make the kids wait till everyone is at the table before we start our meal, it's only manners. Mind you they still have the burps and giggles at the table, tonite was to put the whoopie cushion on dads chair and hope he didn't notice. But they use their cutlery etc and are generally pretty good.
It's nice when you are out or have visitors for a meal and the adults comment on their nice manners. I just lead by example...... or try to! After all kids will be kids

I think my dd being nearly 7, it's time for her to learn manners. Does anyone know if people still eat with only one hand on the table? Of all the manners I can remember off hand, that's the one my mother drilled into us. I also went to Etiquette class as a teen, but barely remember what they said too. Does anyone know if it's rude to leave the table when someone is not finished eating, or do you wait until everyone is done?
Being the wife of an Air Force officer, our kids MUST have good manners! We occasionally go to champaing brunches at the Officers Club. Iwas quite shocked on one occasion when a General and his wife came up to our table and suggested we (my dh and I) teach a manners class to the other officers, their wives, and especially their children. I must admit though that my ds3 is better mannered than my ds13!

I like that idea!!! How original!
I especially like the "dishes for the night" aspect of it!!
Did you do the cut-out of the pig yourself or did you purchse it from a store??
