Yes it is no fun having very little phone time or contact with home......I always lived for Sundays as i knew 9 times out of 10 that was when hubby would call. He served in Kuwait...2 weeks after we got married......some honeymoon...LOL The he served in Kosovo and I had 3 kids under 5 plus a home daycare.....what was I thinking!!! And then he went to Afghanistan and that was actually the hardest tour because the kids were old enough to know what was going on. It was really hard on my oldest...he actually broke down at school....there was so much news and talk on it to.....we tried to ignore everything but it was hard as it was everywhere.

The one bonus for us when hubby wa in Afghanistan was his break.....In Canada they get a substantial amount of tax free money for serving overseas. We decided to meet hubby in Florida and we had 17 wonderful days not worrying about anything. It was a trip we never would have been able to take normally . We all have wonderful memories of the time there.

Do you get breaks in your year???? In Canada our tours are only 6-7 months long so not so bad but the members get a break of about 2-3 weeks somewhere in the middle.

Sorry I haven't responded!! The FC site was blocked on my work computer so I couldn't get on...luckily today I ws able to!!

Our tours are 12 months long and we're alloweda 15 day break sometime within that year. That's where we're headed out to tomorrow FINALLY!! It's a LONNNNGGGG time to be gone away from loved ones!!!! We're headed to the Virgin Islands w/o the kids. We decided it would be best not to take them cause #1 they'd have to miss school and #2 last time I visited them for only 2 weeks, the oldest one had a complete breakdown and I had to be called home early. It took her quite awhile to recover from that so we don't want them going through that again.

Nikki have a fab time!!! Sounds like a fun and wonderful holiday together......I totally understand about not seeing the kids.....Will baby # 3 be a VI baby???
