This is something I've been wanting to do for myself for a while now so I'll suggest it for some of you as well. If you have a Merle Norman center, why not go in for a FREE make-over? (You can't get more frugal than that!) My youngest daughter did this last year as she was going for sorority rush and, not being a girl who wears the stuff, didn't have a clue how to apply or wear make-up. She went in about a week before to try it out. Not only did they NOT pressure her to buy something but did a fantastic job on her! The will even do "special occasion" make-overs" after the initial free one, but do charge a fee for that one. She learned a lot just by watching and asking questions. I don't wear much make-up but feel like I'm in a rut when I do. If I ever get through with this move (and survive it ) than I plan to go in for a make-over myself. A great haircut and even eyebrow waxing lift my spirits and self-esteem immensely. I can only imagine how a make-over would lift me!

You know what I've even considered doing? Buying a subscription to a glamour type magazine. I remember when I was a teenager, I used to buy Seventeen and loved reading the different make up tips and facial ideas. I know I can get all this stuff on the internet for free, but there's something about flipping through the magazine... I think maybe it takes me back to when I was a teen. Who knows

I'm very proud of myself though... since the day I started this thread I have showered, put on make up, done my hair, and worn jeans everyday. Haven't missed one Hopefully it will become routine.

I have also found that since doing this I actually WANT to get outside more, I guess because I'm not ashamed of how I look. I know I'm still overweight and that shows, but that's ok, one step at a time

I wanted to share this because the issue of hair keeps coming up. A while back, maybe 3 years ago, my husband asked me to stop cutting my hair. If I don't wear make-up or don't dress up he always says I am beautiful. I have gained 25 pounds since our marriage 5 years ago (I am 45, he is 50) and he still says I am beautiful, so I didn't think this was an unreasonable request. I think I look better with short hair, but then I rarely look at me. LOL My hair is thin and fine and just looked stringy hanging there (why he wants it long is beyond me, it's just a guy thing). When I just pulled it back or pinned it up it didn't look much better. For several months I took the extra few minutes and french braided it each morning. I got lots of compliments, sometimes from people I barely knew. Since this thread started I have begun french braiding again and feel so much better. For some reason even when it gets a little messy you sexy and stylish rathar than rumpled and dumpy. No one is ever too old for a french braid they even look great on gray hair. If you don't know how there are lots of books and probably some on the internet. It took me a bit of practice to learn to do it, but it was worth it. To be fancy I tuck the braid up under itself and put a nice clip on it. I get LOTS of compliments on that. Don't know why I stopped doing it. Sharon

I was looking at the magazines the other day and thought the same thing! Takes me back! I loved Young Miss too! LOL!

I think I will try to go and get a makeover! But I won't take the kids with! LOL! Now I did buy myself a few toe rings and even a anklet at Claires. I'm trying to not "date" myself. I purchased a really cute little blue jean purse... and found this little tee shirt with colored frogs on it that the kids love. Has anyone else felt just plain "dated" when it comes to clothes??? I want to be "hip" again.
I see some moms with all the toe rings, belly rings and tattoos. Not sure if I'm that bold to get a tattoo or not brave enough to show my big belly. The stretch marks are fine. I wear them like badges of honor. I don't mind that my body has taken on the look of a Rand McNally map...

blushing Hair

I had always wanted to learn to french braid. I would love to learn to do my daughter's hair like that.

I used to love my long hair. It is thick and would be a pain in the rump to wash but I do still wish I had it longer. But as you mentioned, I look much better with short hair. And now I can show off my earrings!!!

That is too funny!!! Now I also know I would feel more comfortable with a tummy tuck and a boob lifter job. Maybe something done with these jiggling cottage cheese thigh... I hate running!!!

lol about the Rand McNally Map ... i think i have a whole map book on my stomach i do wear them proudly though for each of my kids

As for a goal.... i dont think a belly button ring is for me ... as for the tattoos i have 5 already and would probably get my final 2 done or a boob job lol i could always use one of them because if i turn sideways i look flat as a board my 14 yr old DD is bigger than i am

Thank you for starting this thread as i love it and read it daily.

Sue

blushing boobs

Now, I have an ample supply up on top... they have just fallen to my bottom! By the time I'm 60, I will be kicking them with my knees, I just want them pulled up and stretched to look tight again! Ah to be 16 again...

5 tattoos?! I'm impressed!!! Brave!! Now go figure, I can't stand needles and am too chicken to get a tattoo. After 3 kids I would think I would feel invincible!!

i have 5 small tattoos lol one is a unicorn on my left ankle ... i have an angel on my right shoulder which my fiend drew the original picture for me....i have an ancklet on my right ankle with three hearts on it representing my three kids and the same as an arm band on my left arm...i also have an angel sitting on a cloud on my left arm as well My nickname is Angel and i love collecting them and unicorns as well lol
anyway, do you sew at all?? the reason i am asking is because if you sew you must have been pricked at some time with a pin or a needle ..well thats what it feels like to get a tattoo
I wonder if they can tatoo boobs on to me ????
