Sharon, there is a way to turn off the mechanism for the doors automatically locking and it would be listed in your cars owner's manual. I kind of like that feature when I am driving my dc children places but it can be annoying when you have other adults with you.

I've always kept my purse on the passenger seat, or hooked on the shifter between the front seats. I'm not a windows down kind of gal, so I always keep them up. I roll them about 1/8 way down to let the hot out in the summer, but not enough to get an arm through. I figure, if someone wants to steal my purse, good luck, cause I never have too much money, checks or credit cards. My purchases are planned. Nothing extra means not over spending.

When driving at night I use the auto door lock to lock the doors but then unlock my drivers door manually (easy override switch) in case of an accident.
If I'm driving with my window down it's only the drivers side for me only.
If I have a passenger I have all windows up and the air con on, bag in the back on the floor.

like they say keep your treasured belongings with you always eg. your purse you just don't know if something might go wrong if you left it in your car
