House Fairy for Kids - Will it teach them to clean?

I was on www.flylady.net this evening and I saw a link to www.housefairy.org.

The House Fairy (HF) is Santa's sister. She comes to your house when the kids aren't home or when they're asleep and she checks to make sure their rooms are clean. She also keeps her eye on them for Santa and lets him know if they're being Naughty or Nice.

When she visits their room she leaves a little Fairy Dust (glitter). If the room is clean she leaves a little gift/treat. If the room isn't clean she still leaves the Fairy Dust, but no treat.

You do have to pay a small fee to join the sight but it looks like it might be worth it. I signed up tonight. It's a 2 yr membership and you gain access to letters from the HF for her to leave for your kids, membership cards & cert to print for your child, videos for your kids to watch online re: cleaning, setting table, behaving, and several other things.

If it works it will be wonderful. She starts off by asking them to clean up just 5 things in their room. I'm going to show it to my dd's tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

I told my dd's about the House Fairy Sunday morning. They were so excited. Dd2 is 4 and she started saying, "We need to go make our beds!" over and over and could hardly wait for me to tell them all about the HF. They cleaned like crazy for a while. It was pretty cute. I went to the dollar store today and bought a few little prizes for the HF to leave for them.

The site has videos for them to watch also. They watched one called Suprise Mommy that talked about doing things w/out being told. DD1 ran upstairs, picked out her own clothes, got dressed, came downstairs and suprised me. When it was lunch time she got out the placemats, napkins, & silverwear and set the table. She was so proud of herself. I wasn't even aware it was time for lunch but she was on the ball and had everything ready for me.

I'm anxious to see if they're as excited about it tomorrow. HF will be delivering a letter to them tomorrow while DD1 is at school.

I'm still wondering if any of you ladies have used this site with your kids. Let me know if you have.

I am going to check this out! I can use all of the help that I can get to get my kids to help without being nagged to do it.

Please let us know in a week or so if they still seem to be "on board" with the ideas.

Tami, when I signed up they were running a 1/2 price special. $10 for a 2 year subscription. That's $2.50 per kid per year. If it gets them thinking about cleaning I think it's worth it. I can't remember how long the special lasts, it ends sometime in Feb. Good luck!

My girls even drew pictures for the HF. DD2 drew her a map so she would know how to find their room. First thing this morning DD2 wanted to see if the HF had visited. I told her I think the HF will give them a few days to get their room clean before she checks up on them. I think HF will leave a letter for them today. DD2 has put away a few things in their room this morning. My girls share a room so they both have to keep it clean.

I'll let you know how it goes after she visits.
