Question Do you use the computer, or paper?

How do you keep your addresses organized? Do you keep them in a computer program, or do you use an address book, or a rollodex-type-thingy?

Share your ideas here!

I use both, in some cases.

I use my address book (in my planner) for most of my addresses. Usually when I need one I am not using the computer. For my online friends and contacts, I keep those in my address book, and since I have needed them many times when online, I also keep those few on the computer.

The thing I hate the most os when the address book wears out and you have to buy a new one and transfer everything over! ARRGGHH!

Question Have you considered ...

buying a mini binder to use as an addressbook? Then, when the binder wears out you can just take the pages our and transfer them to a new one. Or, if the individual pages are all scribbled out and written over, pull them out and replace just the one page.

I started using a PDA last year and it's a great tool. It's portable like a paper address book, but also synchronizes with your computerized address book - you don't have to type things twice! Plus, it has a lot of other applications as well. I use it for grocery lists, personal finances, and so much more - I've been able to eliminate my old DayRunner planner. The prices have really come down recently. Check out MySimon.com - it will search retailers for the best prices and also rates their reliability and customer satisfaction.

My sil got one of those for Christmas ...

I can't remember the brand of PDA she received, but I took time to look it over and it does look really cool!

Maybe next Christmas it will be my turn to get one ... ;-)

addresses

I keep my addresses in a 5/8 card file. The cards are big enough for not only the address and phone numbers but I also can keep track of birthdays, anniversaries, sizes, hobbies, etc. I no longer keep addresses on my puter since i received a virus that then went into my address book on the puter and sent it to everyone else. That upset me to no end.

Address books

Somebody asked Princess Grace what she would grab on her way out if her home was on fire and she is supposed to have said - my address book. I guess we can all relate to that. I have to documents for my addresses on my computer - one in label format and one in alphabetical order. The labels I use at Christmas time. I print off the alphabetical one and keep it in my desk. On this second list I have, apart from the usual name, address, tel., fax and email,

1.birthdays,
2.anniversaries,
3.the names of any children in the family,
4.a note of anyone who has passed on (and the date).

Very handy when dealing with correspondence and since I'm (getting older and not so good with the names and dates) easy to keep the details right.

I thought I was being original!

I, too, use the large index cards for keeping all my addresses. The only ones I keep on my computer are the ones whom I write to regularly. I go through my Outlook address book periodically to delete names that I don't recognize, and addresses I don't have names for.

Not only do I keep much of the same info that Lucky mentioned (BTW, welcome, Lucky!) like name, address, phone, e-mail, kids' names, b-days, anniversaries, and death dates if applicable, I also keep a record of Christmas cards sent and received on the back.

That's my Master Box.

Ah, kindred souls! You ladies are great!

Count me in as another index card user. I use the smaller 5x3 cards though and keep them with alphabetical dividers in a small plastic box. I've developed an aversion to regular address books.

I also keep my addresses on the computer, but not for reference: I have them in a WordPerfect labels file that I print out to put on my holiday cards.
