Hi Janie, sometimes it's hard to know what to keep and what to throw away but once the decision is made it's easy, and you wonder why it took so long......... or is that just me.
What is a hedge apple or hedge ball?
When I was 4/5 dewp65 we lived in the bush we had tank water and an outside bathroom and toilet, it was always spooky going to the loo in the dark 'cause you would hear a noise and go very quickly. My first school had 32 students in all, pre sch-gr6. We lived in a 1brm shack for 2 yrs and I don't remember what Mum did for storage. My worry for the day was walking to school past a herd of cows and back, but not too far thank heavens. I didn't like cows at all!
Boy was I glad when we shifted to a 3brm house in the burbs with the mod cons, but now I'd like to take my kids to an old place like that for the holidays, you'd pay a fortune for the privelege.
Hi Bilby: That's a neat story. Did you draw water from a well? At my grandmother's house in Ga., we had to go quite a ways, bring water from a spring to the house. Didn't need exercise bikes or treadmills back then hahaha.
I don't want to get totally off the subject, but went to some friends last night. Hadn't been in a long time, they need some organizing, because they don't have time with their schedule. We share hobbies; raising dairy goats, except theirs has become a manigery(misspelled). Have to tell you this story. They had a calf in the barn that thinks he's a dog, he roams the yard with the dogs, and a "seeing eye duck" (One of the dogs is blind, so the duck quacks and leads him around. When the duck stops quacking, he stops walking. The calf comes in the barn and licks the goats like a dog does.

depw1965, it's funny now to say these things that happened in my childhood 'cause being 36 now, my kids think of a horse and cart when I say 'when I was a kid' So not true!
I do remember 1 unique storage solution, our angora goat used to sleep in the kennel with our boxer dog. They were inseperable, they just wondered off one day never to return. oh
well.
I like that the dog has a seeing eye duck!
We had different dogs a different house and cats also and the dogs helped the cats carry their kittens. Cat with a kitten, cat with a kitten, dog with a kitten.
I suppose farms have their own starage problems. I know in droughts mice come in plague proportions and eat through absolutely everything to get to the grains, food etc.
I like camping so much cause it reminds me of tougher times....not that I lived them but I had visited people when I was little who did. It makes you appreciate what you have. It didn't seem to have storage problems when I was younger, this has happened to me since about 1990ish. I also seem to have a lot less time, but then who wouldn't if you go to school half time, work full time and run a house and have a teenager (well he is grown now but still here) ....I think I just do not have time to be organized nor do I have the time not to be.

I know this is going to sound like a broken record, catlady101, but seriously...check out the flylady.net site. I, too, didn't think I had time to clean, but in only 15 mins a day you WILL make a difference in the way your house looks and most important in the way you FEEL. As your house becomes clutter free--your heart will become clutter free also. It will take time but everyday will make a difference...I know because I'm been fluttering since April. Sometimes I go great for a few weeks and sometimes I nose dive out of the nest, but when I start flapping again, it's never as bad as it was before because I have decluttered etc. Give it a try-what do you have to loose....except tons of clutter!!

Hi!...
I think we have been all overwhelmed at one time or another.
Don't try to do the whole place at once!...that's what is overwhelming.... do it one room at a time......start with the least used room ....that will give you a psychological knee up.....then the next and the next.
Set some rules.....if you make the mess, you clean it up!
and that includes teen son!..... I had a rule in my house
and at the time there were 4 teenages living in it....
"If I pick it up it gets thrown away".
After a few of their things, 'disappeared', it was amazing how things were looked after.... *g*

How right you are! I have a very active (sports, dance) 9 year old who is also in a special program at school for highly gifted children which requires a lot of time, and a very active, climbing, running, and generally into everything 16 month old. I joined flylady about 3 weeks ago (I think, it is all a blur). It is amazing how much can be accomplished when the house is divided into zones and hot spots, weekly chores are identified, and you establish morning and evening routines. I make a plan for the day the night before so that I can check things off as they are accomplished. My very disorganized daughter started imitating me after reading my lists and seeing the difference in the house. Both kids were sick for 10 days at the same time, and then a week later the baby was sick for another week. I trimmed what I normally would have planned, but still felt as if I accomplished more than just keeping the house maintained.
Now the real test begins. We are completely gutting the master bath because of a major leak. So, there is dust galore. DH did most of the demolition and tried to keep the dust contained but there is a fine layer on everything all over the house. I will need to LOL lots and lots throughout the process.
