Renters--How Much Money Will It Take?
Every time we move, my sister has asked me how I figure out how much money we would need. I try to follow this plan:
For Renters:
Plan on paying first month rent + deposit. Add a fee if there is going to be a background check. Also check to see if there is going to be any "one time" fees for apartment complexes.
I have found that most TV, Internet & Phone companies want a first month payment too.
Check Electric, Gas and Water/Sewer companies beforehand to see if you will need an upfront payment. Some ask for one, some don't.
You will need money for a rental truck. ( Dont count on getting the deposit back) If something happens, you are covered. If not, you will have some extra money when you take the truck back. Pay close attention to the extra day and extra mileage fees.
If you are going to need to rent a storage box, add money for this too.
You will need to buy food. I've been bitten more than once on this subject.
You will need spending money for gas for the car and any other expenses that arise.
I drove our car and my DH drove the moving truck so we purchased a good set of walkie talkies so that we could keep in touch on the road. (they were $80. but well worth it to us)
Make sure you cell phone bill is paid and that your calling plan covers the area in which you are moving.
If you are moving for a new job, consider that you might be without a check for a week or two--add this money into your moving money, if possible.
Here's the shocker: Once you get an approximate amount from the list above, DOUBLE the amount. If you are able to do this, you shouldn't run into money problems immediately. You should be able to settle in to your new home and enjoy it!
These tips work for me.
Please add more tips to this list!

Well, it depends on your definition of settled, lol! We are moved in and almost done unpacking. I really hope to have everything unpacked by this weekend.
The best part of this move is seeing my DH so happy to be back at this job! He loves what he does for a living and now he can enjoy working again.
We went to look around Rock Hill,SC today. A lot of the guys that he works with live there in that area. Gas prices are $.30 less a gallon!! We've been told that housing is a lot less expensive too. The area felt a lot more comfortable to me. It's a little further to drive to work--about 7 miles each way--but to me it would be worth it.
At this point, I cant imagine moving again in a year but its going to happen. At least I downsized a lot before moving!
How are things on your end?
