I worked in a personal care home and we often gave the residents a substitution for Carnation Instant Breakfast that we were told was just as good for them. Instead of adding powdered milk to water, add it to whole milk in the quantities called for and then flavor it with whatever you have like vanilla, or chocolate or strawberry syrup. The flavors are endless. SallyO

I would love to have the carnation Instant breakfast mix...I drink it most days I work....It is easy to drink in the car on my commute. I actually dilute it a lot more than it calls for but it still tastes good to me. I guess most of the nutrition I get is from the skim milk itself. But even the containers ( not the envelopes) of the IB are not cheap $5 most places. I keep a measuring cup in it so I do not have to search each morning for the right size.
Let me know if you find a master mix.

I know this isn't "the" drink you're looking for but it sounds good just the same so I thought I'd share. It just came in on a list I'm on where somoene asked for protein breakfast ideas.

What a great idea! I have a small-built son with a very small appetite yet somehow a great deal of energy. using these are about the only way I can guarantee he'll have something for breakfast other than buying cereals that are at least 40% sugar!

I just found a recipe at [url]http://recipecircus.com/

Recipe is at: http://www.familycorner.com/forums/s...869#post103869

Carnation Instant Breakfast

Kiwibeeper~~~~ Thanks for posting the recipe. It is cheaper than buying it. Love the recipecircus website. Have not been there for awhile have really fixed it up.

Carnation Instant Breakfast

Hi I am new here. Went looking for a copycat recipe of Carnation Instant Breakfast and found this site.

Here is my first attempt. This is for one glass:

http://www.familycorner.com/forums/s...&threadid=8082

I really hope we can come up with something here. My husband drinks this every morning for breakfast and sometimes for snack, so at $4.50 for a box of 10 envelopes that gets pretty expensive.

yeah, it would be smoother and it is sweet. there is also ovaltine - and it is vitamin fortified.

Hi I'm back. I got the Nesquik powder and tried that. This tasted just like Carnation Instant Breakfast to me:

2 tbsp Nesquick, 1 tbsp nonfat dry milk per one glass

I looked on the ingredient list for Carnation Instant Breakfast, and the basic ingredients are sugar, cocoa, dry milk. I tried this (see my post above) and it was bubbly and did not mix well. So then I noticed that the Instant Breakfast said "cocoa processed with alkali". I don't know what that means, but it is the same ingredient in Nesquick, and it really does make a difference in the smoothness of the drink. Nesquick already had sugar in it, so it was not necessary to add sugar.

Since the Carnation brand is owned by Nestle, I really do think that the instant breakfast is just Nesquik with dry milk added. This is a lot cheaper than buying the instant breakfast. If you want the vitamins, take a pill instead.

You guys let me know if you think this is pretty darn close if not exact.
