Looking for unique ideas to keep that spark!

My Hubby has been deployed overseas for 6 months with the Canadian military. I was curious if any of you had any ideas to help me keep that spark going. We are limited to 1 phone call a week and e-mail is rare so I am relying on mail to keep that flame going. Have any of you been in this stituation, did you do anything crazy???
Of course if any of you read the smiley contest entries you would know how I kept the spark going once he was home from a tour......LOL

It sounds silly, but send him cookies or brownies. He will feel extra special as he shares them with the jealous men around him. This also gives him the excuse to brag on you.

I can't scientifically prove it but I believe it was cookies, sent to Viet Nam, that made my husband fall in love, and kept him in love with me.

Another hint is to never whine. Look hard to find positive things to write in your letters. Instead of "I miss you" fill up a page with "I love you!".

Make a list of all of the things you love about him and put one in each letter that you write.
Check them off your list as you mail them and add to your list each time you remember something new.

Everybody loves hearing how much they are loved and why they are loved. Many of us don't realize that it is the *little* things we do that make people feel special. I melted each time my husband reached out to hold my hand, it is one memory that I treasure. I loved that he planted broccoli in the garden "just for me" because I was the only one in the house who would eat it.

Men love the idea of being wanted and enjoyed. You can put a small hint of what you miss most, but make it verrrry "G" rated because someone will be sure to read it if you send something even a tiny bit "R" rated! Think of code words that only you and he would understand and smile fondly when you use them.

And we will pray that this seperation makes your marriage grow as you stand together in this trial.

Love & Prayers,
Linda

Linda thank you so much for all the great ideas.....I always wondered if cookies would make it over there okay??? how did you pack yours???

The kids and I sent him a birthday package with hats, and all the things needed to have a party. We bought some little debbies cakes and sent candles.....we also made a bunch of loot bags for the soldiers he is working with. Wanted him to know we were thinking of him on his special day.
I try and make sure that everyday I am mailing something to him......sometimes it is just a quick note with an I love you and others it is a long letter telling about life here and my feelings of love over the years we have been together. I do try and e-mail when I can even if it is just to say I'm thinking of you and wanted you to know I love you. I just never want to lose sight of how lucky we are to be sharing our lives together

Thanks again for all the tips!!!

Linda, that is the sweetest response. We all need to take your advise about those we love & tell them also why we love them.
Now Deb, when did he leave? Seems like it was just the other day you had a pic of him with the kitty on the cat photo thread. And what is the link to the other story so we can read that.

Linda's story about her husband planting the broccoli just for her reminded me of my late husband who hated tomatoes with a passion. When a local greenhouse owner gave me 246 long, leggy, overgrown tomato plants I shook my head in disbelief. I had no time to decide what to do with such a windfall as I had to attend a Women's Institute meeting. When I returned home hours later I found that Stan had planted all 246 plants. There was no room in the garden so he tilled a big area in an adjacent field, dug trenches and layered the plants so that only the top few inches were above the soil. That summer I did everything imaginable with those tomatoes, made juice, froze them, canned them, ate them and gave them away. In the fall, with frost approaching I still had seven bushels of green tomatoes. In desperation I called a friend who was a Home Economics teacher at the local high school. She was delighted to have them as she intended teaching the girls to make green tomato pickle. And all this because of the love of a man who hated tomatoes! Nanajoan

Joan what a beautiful story!! Thanks for sharing it. Isn't that the most wonderful thing when you love someone and you find pleasure in doing things that make them happy!
