I have both a bank and a jar the bank is just for emergencys the jar is for Christmas

Yes we have a change jar. However it doesn't seem to add up very quickly (with the kids raiding it from time to time) However we do save up enough to pay for meals and stuff on vaction. My big saver is my checking account. If I write a bill (say to the electric company) for $121.03 in the checkbook I write down $122 the $0.97 sits in the account. We do this for the whole year, which helps since we live 17 hours from family. We try to go back and visit family for Thanksgiving!

Hello Rocketmom and welcome to F C you will like it here. Nothing weird about your method of saving. I use to do the check thing like that too. But now that I check my accts online their balance and mine would for sure not match. Keep up the good work. I have several banks each one with its own "reason". I never spend a penny I break a dollar for a nickle lol.

Thanks for your responds. I'm like you and do my banking online. I few years ago I asked my husband to help me with a excel spreadsheet. It looks like a check book ledger but it's on the computer. It does all the adding and subtracting for you. It also has an spot (the space that you put an x in when balancing your book) Well instead of useing it for that it holds my penny account. We have it set up so that it adds up on its own. So when you add up the penny column and the balance column it equals the banks balance. Or it should unless I've made a banking error. :-)

Hubby has been saving cahange since April of last year. He started doing this when we found out that we was pregnant last time and even after the miscarriage we just kept on saving.
