I've never heard of it either. I want to learn Mahjong. I've played some computer versions and would like to learn the real thing. I have some friends that want to learn too, but none of us have time right now. LOL!
Hi, I play euchre on the computer, also play Mahjong on the computer. With friends we play pitch, pepper, dirty on your neighbor, spades, and hearts. With our daughter we play all kinds of board games. I think Mahjong would be fun to learn, if you can find the tiles to play with. Dawn
It sounds like we all enjoy computer games as well as card games. I play a LOT of solitaire on the computer and a few others like Hearts and Mah Jong. I like to play games with my GD. It is one thing that my 9yo can focus on for more than 5 min. she is pretty good at them too. The 6yo would really rather be outside all the time - I think she would sleep out there if we let her.
I will have to investigate because I found a site one time that had a section that you could learn the real Mah Jong. I can't remember where it was but I sould be able to track it down.
Do any of your home towns have farmers markets? We have such a nice one that it is a shame that I don't get there very much. I don't do crowds very well but being outside I should be able to go for part of it.
Did you get much rain from the stroms that went through Iowa this morning? I understand that parts of Eastern Iowa is in bad shape because of rains last week. My prayers and thoughts are with you if you are among the families affected by it.
Hope you are having a great day

Each person is delt 5 cards. There are 4 cards left in the deck. The top card is turned over. (oops for 4 players use 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace) for 2 players omit 9's If the first person after the dealer wants that suit they order the dealer to pick it up, otherwise they pass and it goes to the next player and the next. If no one wants that suit then the 1st person after the dealer gets to name the suit if they want to. whatever is named suit, the jack of that suit is the highest card, then the jack of the same color suit (red or black) is the next highest, then ace, king, queen, ten and nine. with the other suits the ace is high. If you take all 5 tricks you get 2 points. If the other team beats you they get 2 points. If you get 3 tricks you get 1 point. my dad taught me to play when i was real little and if we'd complain about getting 9's and 10's he'd say when we learned to play with those, we'd get the good cards. LOL
Dad used to love to play cribbage, too. I never managed to learn that game tho. And where do you go online to play eucker/euchre? This summer we will be going camping and to as many ren faires as we can afford. Won't be as many this year because dh and dd went to New Zealand for 3 weeks back in February and I'm still paying for that. LOL
I actually bought Mah jongg playing cards on e Bay, and a couple of books that teach you how to play the real game from Amazon. Now I just need to get serious. I knew I wouldn't really be able to dedicate any time to it soon, so I didn't invest in real tiles. With homeschooling during the year, then VBS and a mission trip to Brazil in the summers I have put it off. But now I'm thinking it might be great to learn AND teach my kids how to play also. Hmm...we've been making time to play scrabble.... LOL!
Sparklemom, I envy you being able to homeschool. My daughter and I don't click in that area. She starts to whine and I get mad. It is too bad we don't live closer. I would like to learn to play Mah Jong other than on the computer. My daughter and I can do crafts together, just can't teach her the basic stuff she will need in life. She reads real good, her teacher didn't notice that she wasn't learning her math until it was too late in the year. We have been working on it I downloaded some great math programs that she likes so she is learning. I hope to have her up to the 2cnd grade level when school starts. But it isn't easy. Maybe you could give me some hints on how to make it more fun for her and less stressful for me. Dawn
I'd like to invite you to bring your homeschool questions/discussions over to the homeschooling forum! That way others will be able to join in on the talks.
