Hurricane Ophelia

Hi all, looks like SE NC may get a direct hit from Ophelia, but I'm really hoping that it won't get much stronger. I'm just thankful that my dh doesn't have to work-they don't have any kind of hurricane plans for him-he's in security-and the place he guards right now is totally open to the weather. He can sit in his van or sit in a shack they have set up(it's not tied down or secured in any way).
I'm still hoping that we won't see more than some winds and rains, but that's not the way the weathermen are talking.
Take care all,
Pam aka trekmom

Thanks Train-

looks like Ophelia is just a tropical storm again at 70 miles an hour, but now they say it'll probably come to shore here. The county ordered a mandatory evacuation of tourists and a voluntary evacuation of residents of beach areas. In order to have an evacuation though-they needed to open the shelters which meant they had to close the schools because the shelters are our three high schools.....they go from one extreme to another. Oh well, I know my granddaughter loved not having school but it looks like it'll be at least another 2 days maybe 3 before she goes back and then the days will have to be made up sometime. I'll be going to work tomorrow, Tuesday, morning as usual at 4am and getting off at 1pm. Don't know if I'll go in Wed. yet, we'll see what the wind looks like-if it comes ashore Tuesday night it'll probably be pretty much past us when I have to go to work on Wed., but I know I'm not going to let my husband go to work Tuesday night-he's got no real shelter to speak of and he's right at the Intercoastal Canal.

Well, that's all the venting about the storm and all for now, thanks for your thoughts Train.

Pam, I'm thinking of you and your family and anyone else who might be in the path of Hurricane Ophelia. Stay safe and keep in touch to let us know how things are going for you.

Thankfully it doesnt look like we will get anything from this storm. If anything, I dont think it will be much more than a little bit of rain.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in it's path tonight.

Tami

Thanks Tami and Leighann-we got through it OK, power was out since 11am until 8pm. After all the phone calls I've been able to get back online and try to get through my mail.
My dh did go to work last night-weather was fairly fine when he went in-it was raining real good when he came home this morning. Tonight he can't go into work because the roads are impassable. My dd and her friends drove around to see what they could see-they also tried to see if her friends could get out of the area to go home tonight, they couldn't. Jim had to call in and there really wasn't anything they could do about it.
I was supposed to work today also, but couldn't. I'm going to try and get into the store (where I work) and put in time for a personal day so I don't lose any time from my check. I would try to work Thursday or Friday, but my parents have doctor appointments scheduled for both days-don't know if we'll get to Thursdays appointment though, we'll find out in the morning.
take care all,

Thanks Tami, our roads were clear today and my dd's friends were able to go home this afternoon. I was also able to take my dad to the doctor this afternoon without any problems. We're going to be warm for a couple of days now-in the 90's and then we have a cool front coming-with some rain-and then we should have a couple of nice days weather wise.
I'm glad that the whole area got away with as little damage as it has, although there is alot of expensive damage in some areas-but there have been no reports of anyone hurt by this storm in our area.
take care,
