Tami my 3 kids love the home Depot workshops...we go every month. this month they are making herb boxes for mothers day. Last month they made butterfly boxes. My kids are 13, 10 and 8 and they all have fun. I would say an adult is needed to help them out though with some aspects of the project. They get a free apron the first visit and then they get a pin to put on the apron every month they do a project plus a certificate .

hugs Debbie

Debbie, Love the pic of your kids!

Is the workshop the first Sat. of the month?

I always forget about it! I know that both of my kids would love this. I wonder if Alexis is old enough? She will be 4 soon. I know that she could handle it. She is so much like her Daddy in that respect. She loves to use tools---and it has to be the real tools....no plastic, pretend tools for her. lol! She tells me " Mommy, you know that those don't really work. I will get Daddy's tools to fix it".

We are going to use our pool here at our apt. complex this summer, too, if they clean it out good enough to suit me. (yep, I'm picky)

Love the library in the summer!

I'm going to make it a plan to do more crafts with them too.

We made these together. The red hat is for my son's teacher for Teacher's Day (ok, we missed Teacher's Day, but it's teacher's week until Friday so it will still work.)

The pink hat with the fringe is Grandma's for Mother's Day. The other pink one is mine.

The jewelry box is for Grandma, too. My son wanted to give her something that wasn't all flowery so he asked me if we could paint it Jeff Gordon (NASCAR) colors. I couldn't resist since he has single handedly turn my 75 yr. old Mom into a die-hard JG fan!

Thanks guys!

I followed the directions for the hats from Amanda's hat project here on FC. Try as I might, I could not get my hats to flatten out like hers did!

I think that they turned out cute turned up too.

We ended up with some new Barbie hats for my daughter to play during the first couple of batches. If you leave them in too long, they shrink! lol!!

Thanks to Theresa, we are going to try our hands at Pearler Beads next!

Only 19 days or less of school left! Our kids get out June 9. How about everyone else?

Love the hats. Like the box too other than Gordon would not work at our house. What kind of box did you use? My 10 yr old son would love to make one in 3 or 8. Also would be perfect for him to hide those small things in.

I have been trying to find new things for my kids todo during the summer. their ages are 7, 9, 10 & 12. Our weekends are full of racing and I want to get them todo other things then wait for the weekends. We decided together that they are going to skip day camp this year. We have marked our calender of certain things that they want todo here in town or nearby.

My 10 yr old is high functioning Autistic and is very into pirates right now so one thing that we are going todo together is build a pirate ship out of popsicle sticks. This is going to be a riot. He loves to draw so he is already planning it on paper. His 9 yr old brother is planning out his too. Neither of my girls are interested in doing this so grandpa is building them wooden rooms to decorate instead.

One thing that we are doing is keeping a reading journal thru the summer and they will have to write a report on thier favorite book that they wrote. My 10 yr old does not read with me at all. He tells me he can't read, and does not like to have me read to him. I have been told by his school that he is getting there with reading(worse subject)but that reading gap is slowly closing for him. So I figured that we are going todo this. His teacher knows that we are doing this and is going to "assign him" this for the summer.
