Trying to organize my kitchen

Since I had to take everything out of the cupboards to paint, I figure this is the perfect time to organize my kitchen! I've tried a few things but they didn't work--like having a "baking area" and a "prep area". My kitchen is way too small for that lol! I also had things falling out of my cupboards(lids to storage containers!). I've made a shelf in the pantry for all my extra pans for oamc, and am going to hang my mugs/teacups, and will stash all my serving trays, etc in the pantry as well, just to clear some of the stuff out. It's been driving me nuts lol! I'm one of those people that like to have everything neat, and just knowing there is a mess behind the closed doors drives me crazy!!

Does anyone have any ideas for all the container lids? I have them in a basket now--am thinking of simply getting a bigger basket . I'm going to get a magnetic strip for my knives and hang it over the stove(dk's are now getting into the drawers). I need to buy some dividers for my utensil drawer--right now everything is just tossed in there and I can't find anything when I need it!

The biggest problem is that my cupboards are tall and narrow--there's lots of space, just not enough room lol! I can't gut the kitchen and start over, so I have to cope

I use dollar store plastic baskets and dishpans to store things like container lids, containers (those are in a milk crate at the moment), and miscellaneous "stuff" like the big beaters from my stand mixer, the potato masher, rolling pin, things that get used a couple of times a year so don't need to be in the drawer with the "everyday" things. I have all the pot lids in a basket also.

I think the container lids is a universal issue!! You made me laugh with that one because that is the one thing that drove me crazy about my kitchen is that one cabinet with the storage containers and lids. Everytime we would take out a bowl all the lids would fall out or a stack of bowls. Just this last weekend I said i can't take it.. I have a large drawer that had platters in it, I took them out and that one drawer is all lids. Plenty of space to move them around to look for the lid I need and they don't fall out. Then for the platters I had one large cabinet (tall but small) that had wasted space. I put tow long pieces of wood along front and back with drilled holes. These pieces of wood are nailed to cabinet then two pieces or wood on top to hold dowels but they just sit ontop of dowels so if I need one to be larger than 2 inches I just lift it up and move the dowel over one hole.I then got dowels now platters, cookie sheets, etc stand up and take up less space and the dowels keep them for falling over.

I love my added space now.

I wanted to do that with all my large trays and stuff, too, but my cabinets are too narrow front-to-back. I have been looking at those roll-out shelves at Lowe's, though--they might work when we get a bit extra money to buy them.

Lol Barbzy--I have all my lids in baskets...now they fall out of the baskets!! If I arrange them neatly they fit just fine. However, I appear to be the only one in the house able to put the lids back IN the basket as opposed to sticking them on the top....

This old thread made me laugh.

I went yesterday and bought a new double oven/stove. They are coming on Wednesday to bring it. With my new stove being a double oven I have no storage place for my pots and pans. So this moring I organized all my cabinets. I got rid of alot of things that are broke, don't have lids to or have seen better days. I had to go thru the tupperware cabinet. It is next to the stove and when they pull the old stove out to replace it. There is no wall between the stove and cabinet that has all my tupperware in.

My dh was the first to let me know yesterday that I better clean that cabinet before it all falls all over the floor . I think he was afraid that he would have to clean it up

So sense I was in the organization mode. I reorganized my huge bathroom vanity. I also hit my hutch and dresser. When he comes home today he won't know what hit him. HEE HEE!!!!
