It is that time of year again, when we will all be getting sick. Here is a good "old fashioned remedy" that really works when you have the bug, the one that gives you stomach upset.

Thanks for the suggestion, I find with a ten month old that puts everything in her mouth, the common cold and flu have been unavoidable. I've tried everything from getting a shopping cart cover (which has helped cut down the colds alot!) but I find that the church nursery is the worst place for catching stuff. I am a stay at home mom and love the fact that she isn't exposed to anything else from a daycare, etc, but still wish I could prevent all colds, etc! lol! Yes, only Heaven will be that perfect!

Sars

I live in Ontario and this SARS problem has been blown way out of proportion. More people die each year from the common flu than from SARS. It just goes to show that people should be washing their hands more often and staying home from work if you are sick. We seem to be getting it under control now by keeping people home that are sick. Why do you think our Mom's would tell us to cover our mouths when we sneeze or cough and to wash our hands frequently? It is all common sense that has been forgotten.

The BRAT diet is always prescribed. I'd rather have the tummy flu over the head/upper respiratory flu any day. the tummy flu seems to last a shorter period of time.

Whenever I hear the flu is going around, I start taking garlic capsules or tablets, a cheap remedy. I don't have to sit in the doctor's office with other sick people to get something for the flu, and I normally don't get the flu.
My daughter and her husband the flu now, and last night asked me to pick up Black Elderberry for her in town. I could only get it in liquid at 11PM, but today, bought the capsules in the health food store in town.

We use Nyquil & Dayquil and Vicks vapor rub on the chest at night to help with sleeping. I stock up when they are on sale and I have coupons to get use through the season and Puffs too!

I had the flu a couple years ago and it was absolutely awful! My doctor gave me Tamiflu but I had to take a whole week off from work. I am not one to lie around and do nothing but I couldn't even get off the couch to put in a load of laundry. Felt like my whole body had been pounded with a hammer, headache, everything felt just awful. This year I am getting a flu shot!

I also always keep chicken soup, gingerale, pepto bismal, cold medicines and ibuprofen on hand all winter There is nothing worse than coming down with something and no having the things you need on hand. Who want to have to run to the store when you're sick?

had Bronchitis plenty of times but
since I have been getting the Flu

a plain cold. I am very grateful for that.

Just got back from the mountains above Maggie Valley, Cataloochee Ranch, NC. I am set for the winter season of flu, colds, and congestion. The 87 yr. old American Indian who runs the Maggie Valley Opry House has a license to legally make and sell Moonshine Jelly, with actual Moonshine in it. One t. and you won't cough for hours, as I've tried it. My friends asked me to bring back some for them, so I brought back six 1/2 pints. I kept two. My Black, Baptist ladyfriend will keep 2 for herself, one to her sister, and one to a friend. Of course, she paid me for them, $10 a 1/2 pint. I tell all the "Good Baptists" here in SC that it is for medicinal purposes and that is true!
