I'm dealing with crazy hormones with him, too! I just bought some more tea tree oil tonight. We used it all last year mixed in with our shampoo and conditioner. I love it but it does take some getting used to the smell. My dh can't stand it.
You need to be careful with any essential oil. They are very strong. You should mix with a carrier oil but for zits we use a tiny amount on a q tip. Dab on each zit. I have to be careful my dh is very allergic to tea tree oil. Breaks out in a nasty rash if it touches his skin.

I haven't tried it. But, maybe if you get an egg white and apply it over night they may dry the skin out and clear the whiteheads.
They are using the egg whites to regenerate skin cells on burn victims. First they wash the burned area with cold water and then cover the area with the egg white wash. Might be worth a try??????????
Since my dd has been using pure soap no chemicals added, her back cleared up. Now she is using soap on her face, her face has cleared up plus the RX meds are too strong. We are using the RX meds on ds's face and when it gets cleared up then try natural soap on his back and face. I did see acne soap at the health food store the kids want to try too. This enforces the thoughts I had on making our own soap. I will be doing that this fall.

I guess it really is a question of trial and error, to find out what works on a given person's acne. The trick is not to go broke in the process. Over the years, I found that the expensive department store skin care products were not helpful, but the inexpensive product found in the drugstore (Oxy10) was.
I'm enjoying having the electricity back on--here on Long Island, our power went out on Sunday night and didn't come back until last evening. We were extremely fortunate, compared to many in hurricane Irene's path--about 250,000 on the Island are still lacking power, and many people experienced serious flooding, trees downed, power lines fallen across their streets. We are very thankful.

Glad to hear that your power is back on and that you are ok!!
I bought him a face wash, acne pads and stuff to dot directly on the spots. So far, the stuff seems to help his face acne but not on his back. The doctor told him to try washing his back with Selsan (sp?) Blue shampoo only. We're going to give that a try now. Most of the stuff was WalMart brand for name brand stuff. I will have to round it all up to post the names of it.
Avon made a scrub that was wonderful. Of course they no longer make it. They make one that is supposed to be better. It isn't. Wish they would bring it back.

I worked for a Dermatologist in the 1970's. He would give the teenaged patients a bar of Neutrogena soap (the clear one) and a Buff Puff. The Buff Puff is $3.50 in any discount pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid). They also have their own brand. What the teenager does is soap up his face with the Neutrogena soap and soap up the Buff Puff. They scrub the face gently morning and night. They do this daily. I started my daughter on the above when she was 11 and she never had acne, had the most beautiful skin that people commented on. I also used the above as it helps "erase" wrinkles, especially crows feet around the edges of the eyes.
So, although this is not a "homemade remedy", but one that was recommended by a specialist, it is cheap and works. I purchased a kitchen sized trash bag full of the generic Buff Puffs from a thrift shop. I feel they didn't know what they were,as they put a price of $2 on the bag.
